CALL FOR PAPERS: EDC 2024
ELECTIONS – DEMOCRACY – CRISIS
Conference at the University of Warsaw
February 29 – March 1, 2024

About
The conference “Elections – Democracy – Crisis” stemmed from an online event held in 2022, titled “Elections - Democracy - Covid-19. Lessons from Europe”. During the two-day online conference, more than 30 participants incited a scholarly debate around the problems of pandemic’s impact on democracy in Europe, with a particular attention given to the elections held under these extraordinary conditions. It further resulted in a special issue of an academic journal published in Belgrade.

Trailing on that success, the organizing institutions (Faculty of Political Science and International Studies of the University of Warsaw and Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory of the University of Belgrade) have expanded the scope of the conference, aiming to address the impact of contemporary crises (wars, pandemics, energy, economy, and others) on democratic and societal processes in Europe. We welcome papers regarding electoral outcomes, emergence of new actors, institutional changes, impact of crises on party systems, voter behavior and democracy as a whole, across the European continent.
We accept proposals from both quantitative and qualitative approaches, as well as from all disciplinary perspectives.

We are also very pleased to announce that the EDC 2024 conference will be held as a live
two-day event, from February 29 to March 1, hosted at the University of Warsaw.

It is our distinct pleasure to invite researchers interested in elections, political parties, and democracy to showcase their research, present findings, and engage in a discussion with colleagues from all over Europe.

Applications are open until September 30, 2023.

Conference registration fee amounts to 100 euros for regular participants; and 60 euros for PhD students. Organizing institutions’ members are exempt from the fee.

Draft papers should be sent by February 1, 2024.

Participants will have the opportunity to publish their papers in a peer-reviewed edited volume or a journal issue, to be issued in late 2024. The publication will not require any fee or additional cost.
