Call For Papers

The Broadcast Education Association announces a special call for research for the 2015 BEA District 5 Regional Conference, in addition to the standard call for papers, panel proposals and creative work. This call is for a special Diverse Voices opportunity. See www.scbroadcasting.com for the regular call.

• Up to four submitters from this special call will be selected for an opportunity to receive a $300 travel award to present
their research at the BEA 2016 Conference, April 17-20 in Las Vegas.
• Submitted proposals will be refereed by at least two reviewers. Submissions are welcome from BEA members, other
broadcast educators, and graduate students. You do not have to be a BEA member to submit or present.
• Submissions for this special call are solicited from university educators and graduate students who would be identified
as an ethnic minority. The goal of this special call is to solicit research from scholars who may not be currently active
in presenting their research. This is a special diversity and inclusiveness initiative seeking to engage with all members
of our academic discipline.
• Submissions may be about any aspect of mass media research and may address practical, theoretical, phenomenological,
critical and/or empirical approaches to media and communication research.

Here’s how to submit:
• Based on a research project currently underway an/or otherwise committed to having completed by September 30, 2015,
submit an abstract and annotated bibliography, with the proposal outlining the planned research.
• Indicate in your proposal a time-line from now through September 2015 for specific work to be done.
• Proposals accepted for the conference must then be submitted as completed papers by October 1, 2015. These papers
will then be presented at the conference. Accepted proposals that are not completed as research papers may still be
presented at the conference as ‘research in progress’ but will not be considered for the BEA travel grant.
• Completed papers will be peer reviewed after the conference, with up to four of the top, completed papers eligible
to be included in a research panel at BEA 2016. The research panel will be submitted to the Multicultural Division of
BEA and must be accepted by the Division in order for the accepted papers to be presented at the conference. If
accepted, one author from each paper will receive a $300 travel reimbursement for attending and presenting his or her
research at BEA 2016. Those who present at the BEA 2016 conference will be required to register for the BEA
Conference. Notification to paper presenters will be made by January 2016.

The BEA District 5 conference will take place Friday and Saturday, October 2-3, 2015 at Texas Wesleyan University. Early registration fee is $25 for all attendees; includes Friday reception and Saturday lunch.
Proposals and papers should be submitted to:
Tony DeMars, Tony.DeMars@tamuc.edu, 903-468-8649.
