Welcome to the 2nd Precarity and Instability in Academia Symposium!
Somehow, against all odds (and institutional indifference), we're back. This second edition continues our attempt to make sense of the tangled mess that is academic precarity: short-term contracts, unpaid labor, vanishing job security, and the existential dread that binds it all together. We invite scholars, researchers, and anyone else hanging by a thread in higher education to join us for open discussions and critical reflections on the instability baked into academic life.
PIAS 2025 will most likely take place in Madrid (Spain) in late December. For those who prefer to stay cozy at home, we will also be hosting the event online. If your paper is accepted, your attendance is entirely optional: participate in person, online, or ghost us entirely.
Summary of our Call for Papers: Submissions are up-to-2-page PDFs using the ACM template on letter size. English, no funding mentions, and keep it anonymous. Papers will be truly open access, and only unique submissions count (preprints and adapted articles are fine). AI tools are okay if you admit it, and presenting is optional because you have enough stress already.
