Call For Papers

Rising sea levels, droughts, bushfires, and other extreme weather events are exacerbating existing environmental stresses, and provoking unprecedented challenges to states and communities. These growing environmental challenges multiply the risk of social deprivation, political instability and war. As the international community struggles to find consensus on limiting carbon emissions, the challenges to peace and security that will arise in a warming world are only beginning to be understood. The aim of this conference is to explore the relationship between climate change and challenges to peace. To that aim, we are calling for papers from scholars, practitioners and activists on all the dimensions of environment and conflict including, among others:

• Security, intelligence and governance
• Human rights, justice and law
• Interlinked global challenges (displacement, food scarcity, etc.)
• Urban settings
• Management
• Role of religious traditions and communities in the action for environmental protection
• Civil society mobilization
• Education
• Expression and representation in literature and arts
• Media and communication

Please send abstracts of maximum 300 words (word format) for presentations lasting no more than 20 minutes, together with a maximum of 5 keywords and a biography of 150 words including name, title, institutional affiliation, contact information and technical requirements where applicable to tutu@hope.ac.uk by April 1, 2020.
