25th BRAZILIAN SYMPOSIUM ON DATABASES

Promoted by the Brazilian Computer Society (pending approval)
Overview

SBBD is the official database event of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC). It has been the largest venue in Latin America for presentation and discussion of research results in the database domain. In its 25th edition, the symposium will be held in the city of Belo Horizonte, in the state of Minas Gerais, on October 5-8, 2010. SBBD joins researchers, students and practitioners, from Brazil and abroad, for discussing problems related to the main topics in modern database technologies.

Traditionally, SBBD has gathered nearly 500 attendees. Past editions of SBBD have been organized in cooperation with ACM/SIGMOD and partially sponsored by the VLDB Endownment. Besides the technical sessions, the symposium also includes invited talks and tutorials given by distinguished speakers from the international research community. Additionally, SBBD comprises a Thesis Workshop, a Demos Session, a Poster Session and several workshops co-organized with other co-located events. This year, the co-located events will be WebMedia, SBSC, and IHC.
Symposium venue

Belo Horizonte (“beautiful horizon”) is the capital of the state of Minas Gerais, and the third largest city in Brazil. Located in the Southeastern region, strategically positioned within Brazil and the Americas, the city is surrounded by the Serra do Curral Mountains, which serve as a natural backdrop, as well as a historical reference. In addition to its natural advantages, and the ease of access by air and by land, the capital of Minas Gerais stands out for its architectural treasures, its strong vocation for commerce and services, and its rich artistic and cultural offerings. Belo Horizonte has a population of almost 2.4 million and over 5.3 million in its official metropolitan region.
Submissions instructions

Submitted papers will be judged by their appropriateness for the track in which they are being evaluated. Thus, appropriate placement of papers is important. The program committee chair may contact the authors and suggest to move their paper to another track in order to ensure a fairer evaluation.

SBBD 2010 will accept two types of submission: full and short papers.
Full papers

Full papers will be presented in the oral sessions of SBBD 2010 technical program. The papers should present interesting recent results or novel thought-provoking ideas in all areas of databases and its applications. Full papers submitted to all tracks must be written in English and must not exceed 16 pages.

One major modification in the SBBD 2010 submission process is its integration with JIDM – Journal of Information and Data Management, the new journal launched by SBC (http://seer.lcc.ufmg.br/index.php/jidm), as detailed next.

All accepted Full papers will be published in the October 2010 issue of JIDM and the SBBD review process will be integrated with that journal review procedure, as follows. Papers will be registered and submitted as usual, by April 30, 2010 and May 7, 2010, respectively. The submissions will then go through a first round of revisions and the authors will receive their reviews by June 11, 2010. These reviews may request the submission to be revised and the revised version must be submitted by July 9, 2010 for another review round. The reviews and acceptances for the revised version will be sent to authors by August 13, 2010.

Papers that are accepted by August 13, 2010 will be published in the October 2010 JIDM edition and presented at SBBD 2010. Papers that are accepted after that date should be published in the February 2011 JIDM edition and presented at SBBD 2011.
Short papers

Short papers will be presented as posters in an interactive setting and should present interesting and exciting recent results or novel thought-provoking ideas that are not quite ready. Short papers submitted to all tracks can be written in Portuguese or English and must not exceed 8 pages.

Short papers will be published electronically and indexed by BDBComp – http://www.lbd.dcc.ufmg.br/bdbcomp/.
