Book Title: Energy and Environmental Outlook for South Asia Publisher: CRC Press, USA Editor: Dr. M. Asif, Associate Professor, Glasgow Caledonian University, UK Book Introduction South Asia constitutes a key geography in the world in terms of not only its large population size but also the daunting energy and environmental challenges it experiences. Most of the South Asian countries are faced with a growing gap between energy demand and its supply (from indigenous sources) resulting in increased import dependence of the same. A majority of people in the region – from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka – lack access to adequate and refined forms of energy resulting into lower levels of socio-economic prosperity. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the energy demand in the South Asia would grow at a rate more than double that of the world average in the coming decades. Furthermore, South Asian countries are also at the receiving end of the crisis when it comes to climate change as many of them are classified in the United Nation’s list of ‘most vulnerable countries’ in the world. The proposed book will provide a comprehensive energy and environmental outlook for South Asia. It will present the energy and environmental scenarios of each of the country in the region in the context of sustainable development. Reflecting upon global trends, best practices and case studies, the book will also discuss the regional perspective. Dedicated chapters are invited on (i) each of the South Asian country (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka) (ii) the region itself and (iii) International trends and best practices on energy and environment. Chapter proposals are invited incorporating: title, abstract (300 words) and tentative table of content. Proposals can be emailed to the Editor, Dr. M. Asif (mas1@gcu.ac.uk), by August 1, 2019. Important Dates: Chapter Proposal: August 1, 2019 Acceptance Notification: August 15, 2019 Complete Chapter Submission: January 1, 2020 Final Chapter (revised) Submission: February 15, 2020 |
