GECCO 2010 WORKSHOP (July 7, 2010)
Real-Parameter Black-Box Optimization Benchmarking
Submission deadline: Thursday, March 25, 2010
Webpage: http://coco.gforge.inria.fr/doku.php?id=bbob-2010
Email: bbob@lri.fr

Quantifying and comparing the performances of optimization algorithms
is a difficult and tedious task to achieve. Tools, provided for this
workshop will ease this process by: (1) an implemented, well-motivated
single-objective benchmark function testbed, (2) a simple and sound
experimental set-up, (3) the generation of output data and (4) the
post-processing and presentation of the results in graphs and tables.

The remaining task for participants: run their favorite black-box
optimizer (old or new) by using the wrappers provided and run the
post-processing procedure (provided as well) that will generate
automatically all the material for a workshop paper (templates
are provided). A description of the algorithm and the discussion of
the results completes the task.

Two testbeds are provided, (1) noise-free functions and (2) noisy
functions. The participants can freely choose (between) both of them.

Besides submissions of results obtained with the provided
benchmarking setup, the workshop welcomes any submissions concerned
with benchmarking real-parameter black-box optimization algorithms in
general.

During the workshop the overall process will be critically presented,
the algorithms will be presented by the participants, quantitative
performance measurements of all submitted algorithms will be
presented, categorized by early versus late performance and function
properties like multi-modality, ill-conditioning, symmetry,
ridge-solving, coarse- and fine-grain ruggedness, weak global
structure, outlier noise...

Special Issue:
Extended version of selected papers will appear in a special issue of
the journal Evolutionary Computation.
