PRICAI 2010 Special Session on Methods for the (Semi-)automatic Creation of Language Resources for Asian Languages Aug 30 - Sept 2, 2010, Daegu, Korea Conference website: http://www.pricai2010.org/ Special session on the (Semi-)automatic Creation of Language Resources for Asian Languages: http://faculty.washington.edu/fxia/pricai2010/ Other special sessions: http://www.pricai2010.org/program/sub_02_6.asp 1. Conference Description The Eleventh Pacific Rim International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (PRICAI-10) will provide an international forum for researchers and industry practitioners to share their new ideas, original research results and practical development experiences which concentrate on AI technologies and their applications in areas of social and economic importance for countries in the Pacific Rim. PRICAI2010 will be held at the Novetel Hotel in Daegu, Daegu is the fourth largest city in South Korea and has been the center of history, administration, education, and culture. The city has many cultural heritages and tourist attractions to well display Korean culture as well as complexes, department stores and large shopping malls. 2. Special session on (Semi-)automatic Creation of Language Resources for Asian Languages As part of the conference, we are organizing a special session on (Semi-)automatic Creation of Language Resources for Asian Languages. Language resources (e.g., parallel/comparable corpora, treebanks/Propbank/discourse treebanks, WordNet, FrameNet, and dictionaries) are invaluable for natural language processing. In the past two decades, there have been much effort in creating such resources; however, many of the studies rely on manual annotation, which is labor extensive and expensive. This special session aims to provide an opportunity for researchers to share their ideas and efforts in automating the process of creating language resources for Asian languages. Topics of interest include but are not limited to: * Automatic extraction of bilingual/comparable corpora from the Web * Automatic compilation of bilingual/multi-lingual dictionaries * (Semi-)automatic annotation of treebanks * (Semi-)automatic creation of WordNet and FrameNet for a new language * Automatic merging of language resources with different annotation schemes and/or from different sources 3. Important dates: * Submission deadline: March 31, 2010, 23:59 Pacific standard time (PST) * Notification: May 15, 2010 * Camera-ready deadline: May 31, 2010 * Conference date: Aug 30 - Sept 2, 2010 4. Submission information The papers should report original and unpublished research on topics of interest for the special session. Accepted papers are expected to be presented at the conference, and will be published in the conference proceedings. They should emphasize obtained results rather than intended work, and should indicate clearly the state of completion of the reported results. Papers for special sessions should be prepared in accordance with the PRICAI 2010 requirements (http://sc.snu.ac.kr/PRICAI10/PRICAI10Prep.html), and submitted through the PRICAI 2010 submission website (http://sc.snu.ac.kr/PRICAI10/PRICAI10Sub.html). 5.
