Special Issue on Security and Privacy for Smart Cities: Challenges and Opportunities

Aims and Scope

A smart city is a newly developed concept, referring to an urban area using different kinds of electronic sensors to collect data and supply information, including data collected from citizens, devices, and assets that is processed and analysed to monitor and manage traffic and transportation systems, power plants, waste management, hospitals, etc. It integrates information and communication technology (ICT), various physical devices, and citizen services. Nowadays, devices in a smart city are not limited to static sensors anymore, but also include any personal wearable devices like mobile phones, smart watch, smart glasses, etc.

These connection technologies greatly improve the quality of people’s daily life, but also expose the whole network to cyber-attackers. As there are various kinds of devices within a smart city, there is a strong need to develop appropriate mechanisms to protect the security and privacy for smart cities.

This special issue intends to gather cutting-edge results on security and privacy issues for smart cities. The aim is to promote research in the domain of smart cities, including design methods, crypto and post-quantum, intrusion detection and prevention.

In particular, the topic of interest includes but is not limited to

Post-quantum security for smart cities Secure design for smart cities Side-channel analysis for the security and privacy of smart cities Security analysis for smart cities Privacy and anonymization techniques for smart cities Lightweight security solutions for smart cities Authentication and access control for smart cities Innovative security techniques for smart city infrastructure Cloud computing-based security solutions for smart cities Critical infrastructures privacy and security for smart cities Biometric solutions for securing smart cities Security challenges and mitigation approaches for smart cities Cyber-attacks detection and prevention systems for smart cities Interoperable security for smart city planning and applications Blockchain technologies for smart city security and privacy Privacy-preserving technologies for smart cities
