Call For Papers

XP 2019 will bring together academic and industry researchers, practitioners, and thought leaders to share research results, best practices, and experiences in the field of agile software and systems development. Whether you are a seasoned professional or a “newbie” - XP 2019 will offer a valuable networking and learning experience.
XP2000, held in Cagliari Italy, was the first Agile Software Development conference. The conference has evolved from its original focus on eXtreme Programing (XP), to a broader agile research and practice conference. Since 2019 marks the 20th edition of the XP conference series, the conference theme will be “Agile - the Next 20 Years: Share and Discover! ”
XP 2019 will be held at the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), an engineering school part of the Université du Québec network in downtown Montréal. As a cosmopolitan bilingual city Montréal, at confluence of the Saint Lawrence and Ottawa Rivers, is home to four major academic institutions, a growing community of companies in information and communications technology, and major cultural attractions. New this year, for the first time XP will be held outside of Europe and will be co-located with ACM/IEEE’s ICSE (International Conference on Software Engineering).

Program
=======

The XP 2019 will consist of a 5-day program with sessions that will feature: research, experience reports, keynotes, panels, workshops, tutorials, an agile leadership symposium, a doctoral symposium, an educator’s symposium, tool demonstrations, lightning talks, networking receptions, and an “OpenJam” unconference.

Submissions
===========
The XP 2019 conference proceedings will be published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing (LNBIP). Submissions solicited below will be reviewed by the program committee based on relevance, significance, rigor, novelty, replicability, and quality. In some cases “accepted” submissions will be subject to shepherding by a designated committee member.

Papers.
Both full (15 pages) and short (7 pages) unpublished papers related to agile or lean software development practices are solicited. Submissions related to systems, DevOps, and emerging application areas such as Machine Learning, BlockChain, IoT (Internet of Things), and data analytics are encouraged.

Workshops. W
e welcome proposals for both original and new editions of prior workshops that address relevant topics. Workshops may be proposed to run half or full days.
Experience reports provide the opportunity to share practical experience through a paper and accompanying talk. An experience report is a reflection of personal industry experiences including challenges seen, approaches taken - and what worked ... or didn’t. Submit an abstract with a brief unpublished experience. Accepted proposals will be shepherded. Experience reports are short (5 pages or less) and reviewed papers which will be published in the conference proceedings. Topics may include practices related to: team collaboration, coaching, program management, and meetings.

Industry/Research in Practice.
We invite proposals for session topics oriented toward practitioners, that may include, but are not limited to, exploring: collaboration practices, coaching practices, management practices, meeting practices, effective communication practices, and games - to promote optimal agile practices.These sessions may leverage (or demo) tools. These sessions tend to be more experiential than presentation-oriented - e.g. a mini-workshop demonstration of collaboration or coaching practices.

Research Posters.
Poster proposals addressing new research ideas, research that is in an early state, or industrial experiences, capable to trigger discussions and collaborations, to get feedback, to disseminate, or validate work in different states.

Doctoral Symposium. Submissions from doctoral students who should be at a mid-point of their dissertation work - following their research design and at least 12 months prior to their dissertation defence. The intention is that doctoral students will have an opportunity to present their work and receive feedback from reviewers and other participants.

Educators’ Symposium.
The Educators' Symposium provides a forum for those with a vested interest in education and training to share ideas for translating methods, practices, and theory into training, courses, curricula, and mentoring programs. Papers are solicited that describe techniques for teaching any facet of agile software development, with an emphasis on ideas and tools. We also invite proposals for: panels, debates, talks, demos, activities, reports, posters, or any other structured session that helps the forum advance its goal of charting agile education and practice in the next 20 years.

Tutorials & Workshops.
Proposals for both technical and non-technical sessions oriented toward practitioners, either from industry or academia. Tutorials should present fairly established material on topics of interest to agile practitioners and may involve presentation of material, discussions and group activities.Workshops should provide a valuable hands-on learning experience, achieved primarily through peer-to-peer activities performed by attendees Workshops are intended to explore topics in depth through attendee interaction, rather than through knowledge transfer by a presenter.

Agile Leadership Symposium.
The Agile Leadership Symposium is intended for CIOs and other decision makers to discuss topics that may include: DevOps, business agility, accelerating product innovation, lean startups, managing global scale agile development, and the culture of agile. Short papers (four pages or less) are solicited on topics relevant to the forum.
