Call for Papers
===============
5G mobile networks are upcoming and are expected to bring in a number of novel features meant to enrich mobile broadband services, targeting also vertical sectors such as e-Health, factories of the future, energy and automotive. Enabling such verticals requires the introduction of high speeds, ultra-low latency, ultra-high reliability, massiveness of network scenarios, all while meeting the requirements of network and service sustainability. The solutions proposed by the 5G community span from (i) NR techniques, which include the use of mmWaves, (ii) massive use of SDN and NFV to make the network more flexible and adaptive, (iii) the introduction of computational elements close to the users (in the edge) regulated by network slicing techniques to support specialized services, (iv) the adoption of multiple and heterogeneous connectivity techniques, including (v) unconventional connectivity schemes, e.g., the use of D2D communications, and (vi) the support for IoT architectures.

All the novel aspects introduced by 5G are complex and intertwined, and therefore hard to evaluate on paper or through simulations. They require methodical experimental investigation, which is quite challenging because of the heterogeneity of the 5G scenario. While the basic network-oriented KPIs for 5G are defined, their validation in operational systems and their impact on end-user performance remains open. In such context, the sharing of knowledge and experiences on experimental results, measurement methodologies and testbed deployments for 5G networks are crucial. Such knowledge and experiences are key enablers for the further development and deployment of 5G networks.

The objective of the EM-5G workshop is to bring together researchers, mobile network operators and equipment vendors from both the 5G and network measurement communities for discussion of 5G measurement results, novel measurement methodologies for 5G and experiences and results from 5G testbed deployments. We solicit contributions on the state-of-the-art, results of ongoing research, open issues, trends and new ideas. Novel approaches focusing on end-to-end performance evaluation in 5G networks as well as the performance measurements of the 5G novel concepts, such as the 5G-NR, the Edge, measurement on Slicing performance, etc. are highly encouraged.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

* Tools and services to support measurements and experimentation in 5G networks
* End-to-end and application-level performance measurements in 5G networks
* Design, implementation and deployment experiences with 5G testbeds
* Measurement-driven approaches to 5G design
* Performance measurements and analysis of multiple and heterogeneous connectivity techniques
* Machine learning and data analytics for monitoring and analysis of 5G mobile network traffic
* Novel approaches towards the isolated measurement of performance metrics within 5G slices belonging to different tenants
* Tools, metrics and performance analysis for the Edge and Fog domain
* Measurement procedures, techniques and APIs towards the definition of context aware services in the Edge.
* Measurement techniques and metrics for evaluating the performance of industry verticals (eHealth, energy, automation, etc) in 5G networks
