BETWEEN THE LINES
TREADING THE MIDDLE PATH BETWEEN ACADEMICS AND PRACTICE
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ARCHITECTURE AND URBAN PLANNING-
AUGUST 17-18, 2018
As the world in general and the Architectural fraternity in particular are becoming increasingly conscious of the renewed sense of responsibility that the professionals have towards the environment and the society, augmented in no small measure by the environmental degradation and the recent movements towards sustainability, there is an increasing trend for the practicing professionals to turn towards academics for coming back to the basics in their search for solutions.
On the other hand the academician is also increasingly turning towards the practicing professional, for getting an understanding of the ‘view from the other side’. Both are, in a sense, symbiotic. There is an increasing awareness that if the profession is supposed to be (as many of us would like it to be) the harbinger of change in the society, then it has to necessarily be a combined effort of the academician and the practitioner.

There is a need, therefore, to perhaps find a middle path where the two streams converge and that is what this conference attempts to do by means of dialogue across a cross section of professionals from different streams with a range of different exposures. We hope to generate a rich debate between the participants, and hopefully throw some light on this matter (and also some heat!!).

We invite you to part of this adventure and soak yourself in the intense and rejuvenating spirit of the conference. We invite high quality research contributions describing original and unpublished results of conceptual, constructive, empirical, experimental, or theoretical work in the fields of architecture
and urban planning. The conference solicits contributions of abstracts, papers and e-posters that address the following tracks:

TRACK-1: Critical appreciation of the past- Narratives on historical buildings, settlements and practices
TRACK-2: Architecture without architects- critical leanings from local and vernacular experiences in built environment
TRACK-3: Building with the times- Innovations in building and construction technology including structural systems, skins, facades, construction details etc.
TRACK-4: Re-imagining cities- Discourses on the present and future state of our cities. Micro level studies on identifiable units of the city are also welcome.
TRACK-5: Let’s theorize- Theories related to architecture, planning, environment and pedagogy in the above subjects.
TRACK -6: An Assessment of the Sustainable Practice in Architecture in India-How much has it impacted the environment in measurable terms.
TRACK -7: Global economic changes- impact on the quality of Architecture around the world
