The Central Theme of the conference is business innovation, especially in relation to emerging technologies that drive the creativity and innovation in business development, science, entertainment, education and new venture creation. The conference will promote the collaboration and application of creative mind-sets to support cross-fertilization of ideas between the worlds of business, science and the arts.

A Special Theme of the 2018 conference is to provide an understanding on what role and how the artificial-reality tools can support creativity and innovation. For example, how augmented reality headsets, immersive reality environments, or new digital media formats among other technologies, are advancing the fields of technology, innovation, entrepreneurship & education. This is especially appropriate as the venue for TIE’18 is Ravensbourne, an industry-focused design and digital media university-sector college at the heart of London. Situated next to the Millennium (O2) Dome and directly adjacent to the River Thames, Ravensbourne has strong connections into the UK creative industries, which underpins the ethos of the conference.

The aim of the conference is to provide a platform where practitioners from the fields of technology, science, business, the arts and education can come together to explore the potential synergies that will arise from pooling different perspectives on creativity for the purposes of creating more innovative and successful businesses. To reflect this, the conference will be organised around four themes, namely Technology, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Education.


We call for research papers, practical reports or case studies from different disciplines that cover the following perspectives, and list some sample questions that authors may wish to address in their papers:

In the area of Technology:

-Emerging technologies, such as augmented reality technologies, immersive reality environments, new digital media formats, the impact on changing business environment, advancing and speeding technological development, driving the fourth industrial revolution
-Current technological innovation and market adoption issues
-Managing big data: challenges and opportunities
-AI and mixed reality technology, machine learning applications
-Internet of Things and how it impacts the way we live
-Future vision on technology applications and reapplications

For example, the following questions might be addressed:

What are the key technological forces driving the forth industrial revolution? How can we better manage the forth revolution of technological innovation?
How does Internet of Things change the new product development strategy and create new market opportunities?
How might the advancement of artificial intelligence lead to the destruction of humanity?
Will the development of robotics technology replace the human jobs? What are the implications and challenges for education, employability and the labour market following the maturity of robotic technology?

In the area of Innovation:

-The economics of science, research or R&D, and technology
-Policy and R&D management
-Organisational innovation: the resource-based view of firm, dynamic capabilities, absorptive capability, core competences and organisational learning
-Sociology of innovation: the diffusion of innovations, innovation and sustainability, environment policy

For example, the following questions might be addressed:

How do we distinguish between ‘innovation’, ‘adaption’ and ‘change’?
What are the similarities and differences about the innovation process in large corporations and small firms?
How can leaders motivate their staff to be creative and innovative?
Are there golden rules of innovation?

In the area of Entrepreneurship:

-New venture creation: new opportunities in technological change, , creative marketing, product development, networking & resources.
-New venture funding and support: sources, innovation hubs and accelerator programmes
-Innovation and entrepreneurship: new technology-based product management, entrepreneurial orientation and innovation strategy, competitive advantage
-Creativity: employee creativity, creative process in organisations, methodologies and tools to promote and facilitate creative idea generation
-Firm growth and innovation: SMEs’ growth and development, innovation management and the role of technology in firm growth

For example, the following questions might be addressed:

Do current government policies promote or handicap entrepreneurship?
Are entrepreneurship process different in emerging markets?
What factors are contributing to the growth of female entrepreneurship?
What is the change in the resources needed for entrepreneurship in a Digital Age?
Are the financial barriers to entrepreneurial start-up changed with the emergence of crowd funding networks? What are the challenges and implications to financial institutions?
Why do the majority of small firms fail to grow?

In the area of Education:

-How to teach creativity to students?
-Effective approaches for teaching problem solving and entrepreneurship
-Pedagogical principles and methods in teaching entrepreneurial orientation and intention
-Cross discipline teaching methods and experiments

For example, the following questions might be addressed:

Is creativity teachable? How do we measure creativity?
How can we effectively teach the art elements of entrepreneurship, such as determination, tenacity and entrepreneurial orientation?
How would we move from pedagogy to andragogy in cross disciplinary teaching?
How effectively can we apply VR technology in teaching?
Are there differences when we use VR to teach business & management or art students when compared with science and engineering groups?


All registered papers will be submitted for publication by Springer and made available through SpringerLink Digital Library.

Proceedings will be submitted for inclusion in leading indexing services, Ei Compendex, ISI Web of Science, Scopus, CrossRef, Google Scholar, DBLP, as well as EAI’s own EU Digital Library (EUDL).
