21st AGILE International Conference on Geographic Information Science Societal Geo-Innovation - Geospatial Technologies for All
Lund University- Lund, Sweden 12 June 2018

2nd CALL FOR PAPERS
Deadline: March 15, 2018 (Extended to March 30, 2018)

What is AGILE Conference? AGILE 2018 is the annual international conference on Geographic Information Science. Topics cover Big Spatial Data: Analysis and Visualization, Volunteered Geographic Information and Community Observatories, Socio-Economic Impact Assessment of GI and GIScience and Technology Education and Training to name just a view.
The 2018 conference theme is "Geospatial Technologies for All". Contributors are invited to submit papers and abstracts related to this theme. Furthermore, proposals on other topics within the fields of Geographic Information Science will be accepted for review.
The 21st AGILE International Conference on Geographic Information Science, scheduled to take place in Lund, Sweden between the 12th and 15th of June, 2018. The program will offer parallel paper presentation sessions, keynote sessions, poster sessions and pre-conference workshops to share your ideas, explore on-going research, future developments, including state-of-the-art applications, and to network with the professionals from academia, industry, and government who are interested in promoting GI teaching and research activities among GI laboratories at the European level.
For the second consecutive year, the Open Data for Open Cities (ODOC) workshop will take place at AGILE Conference with the topic: The reuse of open data through spatial analysis. It will take place on 12 June 2018 as an AGILE 2018 Pre-conference workshop.
This second edition of the OD4OC workshop has a broad agenda that will guide you in how to use open geospatial data, organized around policy goals to design data-driven initiatives in communities. The workshop features two key speakers, Wendy Carrara from the European Data Portal, who will present insights from recent reports on the future of open data portals, economic benefits and entrepreneurship of open data; and Andrew Turner from Esri’s development center in Washington DC, who will show examples of open data portals built to meet the needs of citizens.

Four short-papers will be selected from those submitted, to be presented in the workshop. Authors of all accepted workshop papers will be invited to submit full papers to a special issue of the Journal /Information/ of MDPI with a submission deadline of 1st September 2018. Finally, one portion of the workshop will be dedicated to lead a brief discussion over the reusability of open geographic data, and some examples of the applicability of spatial analysis using open data from Eurostat to develop indicators to measure sustainability of cities in Europe.

The workshop topics may address aspects of Open Data use level, applications and strategies to empower and engage the citizens through Open Data in cities and it includes (but not limited to) the following:

• Open Data (use cases and related studies)
• Open data use for open and sustainable cities
• Impact of Open Data on cites
• Reusability of Open Geographic data
• Open Data portals and its impact on Cities
• City ranking using indicators
• Spatial analysis of open data
• Machine learning with open data using open tools

This workshop is a part of the GEO-C (Enabling Open Cities) http://geo-c.eu/ project which is a joint European project between three universities: NOVA Information Management School in Portugal, Universitat Jaume I in Spain, and the Institute for Geoinformatics in Münster, Germany.

Guideline for Position Papers, Short Papers and Full Papers.
The goal of position, short and full papers is to provide the opportunity for discussions of specialized research questions or challenges related to Open Data, especially geographic data, its impact on cities, its reusability level, and study how cities can involve and empower cities stakeholders to make available information more effective. This workshop provides an excellent opportunity for early-researchers to present their works in progress and obtain detailed feedback. There will be ample time allocated for discussions and participation by all attendees. Detailed instructions for the publication are as follow:

• Short papers (2000 to 3000-word manuscript) or Position papers (( 1000 words) on your related ongoing research or demo in Open Data, its reuse and applicability in spatial analysis. Short papers need to be submitted by the 30th of March. Authors should follow the template for short paper submissions on the AGILE 2018 call for papers page and use the Word.doc template or the Word.docx, for the submission author need to provide their paper in PDF.
Short papers should be submitted directly via e-mail to Adeoluwa Akande at adeoluwa.akande@novaims.unl.pt.
Special Issue in Information Open Access Journal by MDPI

• Full papers (( 6000 words). Authors of selected workshop position and short papers will be invited to submit a full paper on your completed research in open data, its reuse and applicability in enabling open cities, to a special issue of /Information/ Journal with a deadline of 1st September 2018.

Information is a fully open access journal published monthly online by MDPI and indexed by Scopus (Elsevier), Ei Compendex and Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI – Web of Science). Please
contact the OD4OC workshop committee for more details or if you have any questions regarding this special issue.
Details, the manuscript preparation and author instructions can be found here:
http://www.mdpi.com/journal/information/special_issues/Open_Data_2018

Selected papers will be published on the workshop website and have the opportunity to present during the afternoon session of this workshop.
