***This post is for University of California Faculty, Graduate Students, and Post-Doctoral Fellows only***
We are currently in the process of applying for a Multicampus Working Group through the UCHRI focusing on Transgender Studies. We currently have over 12 people involved but are looking to maximize our impact. If you are interested, please email Eli Erlick at eerlick@ucsc.edu. More information on working groups and this project: Working groups consist of 5 to 15 individuals and address an emergent topic in the humanities. While largely focused on UC PhD students (https://uchri.org/cfps/multicampus-grad-student-working-groups18-19/), they also are open to faculty and other affiliated parties (and require at least one professor to manage the award funding). UCHRI provides up to $5,000 in funding for graduate student groups. It is also possible we could access Faculty Working Group funding (https://uchri.org/cfps/multicampus-faculty-working-groups-2018-19/), which provides up to $15,000 if enough ladder-rank faculty join the group. We had a few ideas on what to do with this, including establishing a Trans Studies conference, inviting speakers to our respective campuses, hosting a symposium, and covering transportation expenses for students and faculty. Responsibilities for working groups include attending quarterly meetings and collaborating on projects and opportunities for the group. We will be collectively deciding the exact research questions, subtopics, and activities over the next few weeks. While these are still being determined, some possible issues that we may cover broadly include racialization, necro/biopolitics, activisms, immigration, and assemblage. We are currently reaching out to participants across the UCs and as of now have 12 people committed to taking part in this group. We anticipate the final number of participants to be around 15. Please email Eli Erlick at eerlick@ucsc.edu by February 19th if you're interested. If you miss this deadline, please still email as we can add new participants after we begin or submit our application. The application is officially due March 9th. |
