Crowdsensing Big Data: Sensing, Processing and Understanding

Crowdsensing has recently spurred lots of research interest. It refers to the sensing paradigm in which mobile users with sensing and computing devices (e.g., Android phones, iPhones, and iPads) are tasked to collect and contribute data in order to enable various applications, from recognizing hazardous environmental situations to gaining knowledge on the collective behavior of crowds. Especially with the prevalence of smartphones and wearable devices nowadays, the scale of the crowdsensing system has rapidly increased. For example, the crowdsensing navigation app, WAZE, has already attracted more than 50 million contributors and users. Hence, there is a tremendous increase in volume, veracity, velocity, and variety of the data generated by today’s crowdsensing systems. This calls for an urgent request to bring big data processing and analytics techniques into the crowdsensing area.

Topics include, but are not limited to, the following research topics and technologies:
- Large-scale crowdsensing application design, implementation and deployment.
- Crowdsensing incentive and task assignment mechanism to increase the volume and variety of the contributed data.
- Heterogeneous crowdsensing big data model and storage.
- Noisy data cleaning and truth data finding among crowdsensing big data.
- Representative data selection and data compression for crowdsensing big data.
- Fusion and integration from multi-source, multi-model crowdsensing big data.
- Data analytics for crowdsensing big data.
- Privacy and security in collecting, storing and analyzing crowdsensing big data.
- Real-time operations of large-scale crowdsensing systems.
