Book Title: Blockchain for Distributed Systems Security

Link: http://www.lions.odu.edu/~sshetty/blockchainCFP/CFP.html

Publisher:
IEEE Press

Synopsis:

Blockchain has attracted attention as the underpinning technology for cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin. However, its capabilities extend beyond financial applications and provide security and privacy capabilities to a wide range of technology applications on distributed systems such as cloud and Internet of Things (IoT). This book examines issues in using Blockchain to provide flexible, low‐cost, and secure means to provide data management, data analysis, and information sharing in cloud and IoT.

Most books aimed at current practitioners, primarily focus on Blockchain and cryptocurrency. However, many of the books are only applicable for practitioners in financial cryptography and are not accessible to the broader distributed system community, including cloud and IoT. The proposed book will have encompassing themes that drive the individual contributions, including the broad theme of Blockchain‐based secure data management and storage for cloud and IoT; data provenance in cloud storage; secure IoT model, auditing architecture, and application of Blockchain in military and healthcare domain, and empirical validation of permissioned Blockchain platforms. We envision the book to have 12‐15 high quality invited chapters which address how Blockchain can address security and privacy issues in distributed systems.

This edited book can serve as a great resource for cyber security if each chapter provides a systematic and comprehensive description about how Blockchain can address cyber security and privacy challenges plaguing cloud and IoT. An list of research topics at the intersection of Blockchain and distributed systems security and privacy are given below. The research topics broadly include, blockchain‐based techniques for distributed systems security and security and privacy challenges with blockchain archtiectures and platforms.

Type:

The book will have edited chapters focusing on blockchain‐based solutions for distributed systems security and privacy.

Scope:

The major aim of this book is to provide recent research and open problems at the intersection of blockchain and distributed systems security and privacy research. We are confident that the chapters will serve as a great resource for researchers who are about to start their research in this emerging area. Blockchain based solutions/architectures/platforms for distributed systems security and privacy will be well received by research groups and graduate programs around the globe in computer science and information technology.

Target Population:

The book is intended for professionals: researchers and experts in the fields of computer science and engineering (specifically, distributed systems and security). It will interest military, academic, and industry professionals involved with dependable distributed systems, or those who have general interest in the cloud, IoT, big data, and security. The book will describe a comprehensive suite of solutions to a broad range of technical challenges in adopting Blockchain to solve security challenges in distributed systems: one or many of the findings may be directly useful to anyone working in cloud and IoT security arena.

Suggested Topics:

The book aims to provide quality research findings on recent advances in blockchain and distributed systems security and privacy area that will benefit a large community of researchers and educators. Submissions are solicited on the following topics, but not limited to:

1. Blockchain and Identity Management

2. Theory of Blockchain Security and Privacy
