Special Session on

Business Data on the Web (BDW 2010)
http://bdw2010.uni-muenster.de
during ACIIDS 2010, Hue, Vietnam
March 24-26, 2010

Description:

Data has been termed the new ?Intel Inside? in connection with recent developments on the
Web. Indeed, in particular in connection with what has been called ?Web 2.0? since 2004,
data has been produced in abundance, through automatic collection by machines (e.g., logs
kept by Web servers, click paths, login and tracking data, search engine indexes) or through
voluntary entry by humans (e.g., tags attached to photos, news, or bookmarks, registrations,
evaluations, comments, online diaries and blogs, emails, social network profiles). A host of
novel functionality relies on the availability of such data, and numerous problems result from
it, e.g., data losses, protection of privacy, abuse, etc. Nevertheless there is a clear trend that
not only personal and private data, but also business data is kept on the Web at an increasing
rate and amount. Indeed, as cloud computing and data centers are more and more penetrating
the general computing realm, and as even IT costs have become pressing in financially
difficult periods, placing data on the Web may not just be a hobby, but is becoming a
professional necessity.
As could be observed during recent years, there are considerable differences in
handling this situation, in the readiness of enterprises to place business data on the Web, and
in their willingness to trust their data to external providers, the reasons for this being manifold:
availability problems, legal restrictions, business competition, danger of breaches, transaction
safety, ownership issues, to name just a few. It the goal of this special session is to bring
together people who are concerned with or interested in these issues, develop solutions, and
share their views and findings both from an Asian as well as from a broader perspective.

Topics of Interest:

The topics covered in this special session include, but are not limited to the following, where
an emphasis will always be put on business-related aspects:

Paper Submission:

Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished research papers that are not being
considered for publication in any other forum. We particularly encourage submissions
describing work-in-progress or lessons learnt in practice. Submissions must clearly identify the
nature of the paper as research, experience, or position. All submitted papers will be peer
reviewed and evaluated on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of
expression. By submitting a paper, authors explicitly agree that at least one of them will
register and present the paper.

Submissions can be up to 10 pages in length. We also encourage early papers on novel work.
The format of a submission is the same as for main tracks' submissions (details can be found at
(http://aciids2010.hueuni.edu.vn). Submission is via the main conference system
(http://kms.ii.pwr.wroc.pl/ACIIDS2010/). There will be an option available for submitting
