=== CALL FOR PARTICIPATION ===

The inaugural Workshop on Education and Social Science Technologies (WESST 2017)
19-21 July, National University of Singapore

The advent of the big data has made its impact on many disciplines
including Information technology, business and financial markets, and
healthcare industries. Now in its second wave of impact, big data is
bringing the empirical data-evidenced promise of revolutionising other
industries: particularly, education technology and social sciences.

At the School of Computing, NUS, we meld the expertise of two
departments: Computer Sciences and Information Systems in one school,
in providing WESST 2017 as a platform for disseminating and networking
transformative innovations in educational technology and social
sciences.

NUS is leading the way in educational technology. With the committed
backing of the Provost, the newly formed institute, NUS ALSET, is
tearing down institutional barriers in assembling a data lake on
student learners at NUS. Compiling aggregate statistics on students
before, during, and after their tenure at NUS, and looking forward to
the growth of continuing professional education (CPE), ALSET is
assembling this data lake to provide long-term, longitudinal analytics
support to faculty and collaborators in assessing the long-term impact
of learning interventions, in terms of both educational and learning
sciences.

WESST 2017 builds upon the previous technical programme and expertise
of organising the 2015 Workshop Technology for Teaching at Scale,
which featured invited talks from around Singapore weighing in on
educational technology.

-----

WESST 2017 will be a three-day workshop featuring key highlights in
educational technology and computational social sciences.

19 Jul – Full-day Parallel Tutorial Sessions on data analytics, social
media analytics, natural language processing, and factor analysis. An
introduction to the NUS ALSET data lake and its accompanying
“hackathon” mission. Venue will be at the STMI and CHI classrooms at
Level 3 of the I-Cube building (21 Heng Mui Keng Terrance)

20 Jul – Invited Research Workshop featuring external speakers curated
from the worlds best experts, and invited local experts in educational
technology and computational social sciences. The venue will be
Lecture Theatre 19 (LT 19).

21 Jul – Grand Challenge Talks and a Networking Event featuring
perspectives and viewpoints of stakeholders in government, policies,
administrators, scholars and researchers in business, social sciences
and humanities. The venue will be Lecture Theatre 19 (LT 19).
