Call For Papers

ISSNIP Biosignals and Biorobotics Conference 2010
Theme: Biosignals and Robotics for Better and Safer Living
Vitoria, Brazil
4-6 January 2010

Our modern computers have sufficient computational speeds and memory. Now is the time for taking the technology for the true purpose, helping all humanity. Medicine has overcome number of health issues, and in most societies, we now live longer and healthier. There are number of groups around the world that are working on the different aspects of applying modern discoveries towards helping the disabled, people in special circumstances, for entertainment and similar. There are also number of multidisciplinary biomedical groups around the world where the technologies are being developed for rehabilitation and health applications.

This aim of this conference is to provide an opportunity for scientists from around the world to exchange notes and discuss research that is related to applying electronics and computers for helping the disabled, the elderly, and people in special circumstances to protect humanity and the environment. It will provide the electronic, Biomedical and Biosignal engineers to interact with clinicians, rehabilitation engineers, rehabilitation nurses and paramedics and Defence researchers and personnel. The conference will consist of four related streams:

1. Biomedical for assistive technologies
Biomedical engineering is a growing field with number of diverse fields. The aim of this stream is to provide a platform for biomedical engineers, clinicians, managers and user of assistive technologies to get together and share their outcomes, ideas, needs and views. Scientific papers that deal with the research, development, testing and future requirements of assistive technologies are invited.

2. Advances in Biosignals
There has been an explosion of biosignal analysis around the world. The aim of this stream is to provide a platform for researchers to discuss their research outcomes with their peers, and demonstrate the possibilities of applications to clinicians and users. Scientific papers that provide the research, development and applications of biosignal analysis are invited for this session.

3. Biometrics
Biometrics is commonly used for identification or verification of identity of an individual. Wide range of biological measurements are being used, ranging from the anatomy of the individual to the response of an individual in a certain circumstances. While some governments have eagerly accepted biometrics for people identification, there are number of unanswered questions and the field is growing at a very rapid pace. Papers are invited from researchers and user groups involved in research, development and testing of different biometrics technologies.

4. Robots and actuators for better and safer living
Robots have found applications ranging from industrial robots to assemble cars, robots for entertainment and robots for assisting people with limited capabilities. Robots have also found applications for assisting in rescue missions in environments that are too dangerous for humans, and for protecting natural resources. This conference invites papers that outline research and development related to robotic control and design related to assistive living and for safety of humanity. This will provide a forum for the interaction of the users, developers and scientists working in the field of making the world a safer and more able place. Special focus of this conference would be robotic wheelchairs, robotic domestic devices for the elderly and robotic devices for distant sensing for the defence and security.

Technical Sponsorship
Cosponsored by IEEE EMBS.

Paper Submission
Proceedings will be published in accordance with IEEE Biosignals and Rehabilitation Engineering Society. Only Electronic submission in PDF or MS Word format are required.
Papers must represent high quality and previously unpublished work, not currently under review by another conference, workshop, or journal. The official language of the conference is English.

Interested authors should submit a 4 (minimum) to 6 (maximum) page summary of their original and unpublished work including 5 keywords in the IEEE format. Your submission should include the author names, complete mailing addresses, telephone and fax numbers, and the email addresses of the authors. For formatting and submission instructions, please refer tohttp://www.itng.info/Submission.htm.

Evaluation Process
Papers will be evaluated for originality, significance, clarity, and soundness. Per ITNG policy, except for invited papers, all papers will be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers. Accepted papers will be included in the conference proceedings published by the IEEE Computer Society and available on the IEEE digital library.
