Special Issue of the Elsevier Computer Communications Journal on Mobile Video in the 5G/IoT Era
http://www.journals.elsevier.com/computer-communications/call-for-papers/special-issue-on-mobile-video-in-the-5giot-era

Theme
The enormous popularity of smart phones and other mobile hand-held devices has led to a dramatic increase in wireless video traffic. Until just recently, there were very few mobile devices with any capability for video reception. According to recent estimations, mobile video traffic is expected to be 60-75% of the global mobile traffic by 2020, and this percentage will only increase with the myriad applications of the “everything connected” Internet of Things upcoming era.
However, a number of significant challenges need to be addressed and overcome before the full potential of mobile video networking is reached.

Such challenges include, among others:
• New sets of traffic control procedures must be implemented in order for networks to cope with the high variance in video traffic Quality of Service (QoS) requirements and guarantee the required Quality of Experience (QoE) for users;
• The small display size, limited battery and processing capabilities of mobile devices are constraints which can negatively influence user QoE;
• Pricing models for mobile video services;
• User discomfort in holding their phones at a set distance from their faces for the time of a video conference;
• Compatibility issues between the equipment and the software of mobile video users.
All of the challenges related to mobile video networking are further hindered by user mobility and by the high error rates in wireless networks.
Given the small display size, even a relatively low video packet dropping probability may considerably deteriorate the viewer’s QoE. Additionally, errors due to packet loss in a reference frame propagate to the dependent difference frames. Depending on the effectiveness of the encoding/decoding scheme, this phenomenon can have a significant impact on the quality of the received video sequence.

Topics of interest
This special issue is devoted to covering all aspects of current work on mobile video and to providing a forum for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss their most recent contributions in the field. Previously unpublished, original papers of high quality that are not currently under review by another journal or conference are solicited on (but not limited to) the following topics of interest:
• Mobile video services and applications (social networking, gaming, surveillance)
• Cloud-based mobile video delivery
• Power management for mobile video
• QoS issues and performance evaluation of mobile video over wireless networks
• Mobile video streaming in cloud and mobile cloud computing environments
• Video for wireless sensor networks
• Reducing video transport cost over mobile networks
• Mobile video traffic modeling
• Mobile video QoE metrics and optimization
• Protocols and algorithms maximizing bandwidth utilization for mobile video traffic transmission
• Mobility management for mobile video users and applications
• Wireless video coding
• 3D Video compression for mobile devices
• Pricing of mobile video services
• Peer-to-peer mobile video
• Mobile video in m-health networking
• Video in hybrid networks, e.g., WLAN-to-cellular, mobile hotspot to cellular
• Mobile video services supported by mobile cloud computing techniques
