Call For Papers

CALL FOR PAPERS -- Seeking original previously unpublished papers to be chapters in a new exciting book titled A Handbook of Food Crime: Immoral and Illegal Practices in the Food Industry and What to Do about Them (published by Policy Press, 2018).

Openings for papers within three different themes:
1) food trade and movement (re: regulation/enforcement of food labels, cool labels, import/export food bans, etc.)

2) green food (re: governance issues concerning sustainable foods, food politics surrounding concept of sustainability, etc.)

3) technology and food (re: regulatory issues involving in vitro meat, livestock biotechnologies, etc.)

First draft (max 5,500 words) due to editors January 15th, 2017.
Final draft due to editors May 1st, 2017.
**SOME flexibility with deadlines**

Food crime and food harm involves:
-Any decision, practice, omission, etc. which involves an illegal, criminal, harmful, unjust, or immoral food-related issue whether (in)formal, (non)regulated, (un)governed, or (un)enforced, where justice is extended beyond legality to recognize broad variety of negative consequences on both human and nonhuman victims
- May be illegal (criminal or civil), deviant, harmful, unjust, unethical, or immoral; intentional or unintentional consequences
- May threaten public health, safety, or well-being
- May involve issues of law-making (needed but does not exist) and law-breaking (laws do not prevent harms) associated with food production, processing, distribution, sale, and consumption
- May concern how laws and regulations are un-enforceable, lack effective enforcement, or fail to protect food, livestock animals, agricultural workers, consumers, and the natural environment more broadly; may be harmful issues that ought to be illegal
