Call For Papers

Situational awareness (SA) is a prerogative for effective decision making during emergencies.

A burgeoning number of ICT tools and analytical methods are being developed to enhance both individual, as well as shared (team) situational awareness during large or small scale medical emergencies and disasters.

In this light, Situational Awareness Systems track of The World Association of Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM) Congress (Toronto, CANADA, April 25-28, 2017) is seeking contributions that will foster innovation in Situational Awareness Systems. The SAS track is led by the COncORDE consortium (

We welcome research papers, proposed studies, field/case reports, full scale or partial demonstrations, simulations that can help share innovative approaches to situational awareness in disaster and emergency medicine.

Relevant topics include but are not limited to:
-Critical Data Identification and Collection
-Data Presentation
-Data Sharing/Interoperability
-Decision Support Tools
-Responder Management
-Multi-Agency Situational Awareness Systems
-SAS in Austere Settings.
-Healthcare “Internet of Things”
-Ethical and Legal Issues

Selected abstracts will be invited for being developed into full length papers to be published in the Medical Situational Awareness Systems in Emergencies and Crises Special Issue, to be published in Journal of Contingencies and Crisis Management (ISI Impact Factor: 1.073) (subject to additional double-blind peer reviewing);

We invite you to check the topics of this and other tracks and submit short abstracts of your ideas by clicking on the link below, by 14 November 2016.

Toronto Congress will be WADEM's 20th biennial meeting of global experts that exchange knowledge and best practices on disaster health and emergency medicine. More than 800 healthcare professionals, researchers, industry representatives, policy makers and students from 63 countries participated in our last Congress in Cape Town, South Africa in 2015--and we expect to exceed that for Toronto!
