ADS 2017
Special Session on Applications of Data Science at the 9th Asian Conference on Intelligent Information and Database Systems (ACIIDS 2017) Kanazawa, Japan, April 3-5, 2017 Conference website: http://www.aciids.pwr.edu.pl/ Objectives and topics Data Science has grown to become an area that attracts multidisciplinary research teams to tackle a wide array of problems whether they be Scientific, Business or Societal. The underlying drive in all these problems is the large amount of data, often referred to as Big Data, that one has to seek through to generally make sense of the problem. There are different paradigms being used to tackle problems in different areas and there is value in learning the insights gained in all these applications. It is therefore desirable to apply computational intelligence techniques on these large amounts of data, to automate problem-specific analysis. We aim to provide a common platform where practitioners, industrial representatives and researchers in this field can share their experiences, present current research results and discuss the application of computational intelligence tools for analysing and forecasting results in various problem areas. This special session aims to bring in different practitioners to discuss their applications of Data Science to real world problems and share their best practices. With the ever increasing amount of data as well as a push to open up data from Government and Business, new opportunities arise to look at some of the world's toughest problems with a new lens. The scope of this session includes, but is not limited to the following topics (under a two major categories): Algorithms & General Application ● Data mining ● Text mining ● Classification, regression, clustering, and analysis algorithms ● Data reduction, feature selection and transformation ● Data visualisation ● Distributed systems and learning ● Big data mining ● Big data applications ● Graph analysis ● Scalable learning ● Theory, applications and mining of networks ● Anomaly detection ● Stream and real-time processing Applications with Social Impact ● Public safety ● Open government ● Education ● Healthcare ● Energy ● Transparency ● Policy ● Disaster management ● Smart cities ● Poverty Important dates Submission of papers: 1 October 2016 Notification of acceptance: 1 November 2016 Camera-ready papers: 15 November 2016 Registration & payment: 15 December 2016 Conference date: 3-5 April 2017 Program Committee (to be invited) Dr Shakir Mohamed, Google Deepmind Prof Bhekisipho Twala, University of Johannesburg, South Africa, Prof Snehashis Charkravery, National Institute of Technology, India Dr. Dalton Lunga, Oakridge National Laboratory, USA Submission All contributions should be original and not published elsewhere or intended to be published during the review period. Authors are invited to submit their papers electronically in pdf format, through EasyChair. All the special sessions are centralized as tracks in the same conference management system as the regular papers. Therefore, to submit a paper please activate the following link and select the track: ADS 2017: Special Session on Applications of Data Science. https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=aciids2017 Authors are invited to submit original previously unpublished research papers written in English, of up to 10 pages, strictly following the LNCS/LNAI format guidelines. Authors can download the Latex (recommended) or Word templates available at Springer's web site. Submissions not following the format guidelines will be rejected without review. To ensure high quality, all papers will be thoroughly reviewed by the ADS 2017 Program Committee. All accepted papers must be presented by one of the authors who must register for the conference and pay the fee. The conference proceedings will be published by Springer in the prestigious series LNCS/LNAI (indexed by ISI CPCI-S, included in ISI Web of Science, EI, ACM Digital Library, DBLP, Google Scholar, Scopus, etc.).
