When it is govern by industrial issues, it usually refers to remote control of manufacturing systems. For some times, it is also a concern for universities and especially for joint laboratories, which can see the remote control of devices as a tool for the leverage of collaboratories. Of course, open and distance education institutions are also interested in providing remote laboratories to their students, hence need they remote laboratories to bring the laboratory right to the door of the students (?If you can?t come to the lab, the lab comes to you?). GRIT is a workshop willing to make researchers from these different communities meet around the issue of the remote control of devices through the Internet. Actually, research communities in remote instrumentation and telerobotics are distributed in different research topics, mainly : the industry (extended enterprise), distance learning curriculum (remote laboratories), and distributed and joint research laboratories (also known as ?collaboratories?). Topics : GRIT solicits research submissions on all topics related to remote control of devices in distributed systems, including but not limited to : - Control of manufacturing systems - Robotics - Collaboratories - Interoperability of information systems for the remote control of devices - Remote laboratories - Collaborative Remote Laboratories - HCI of the remote control of devices over the Internet - 3D Environments for tele-operations - Diagnostic methods in remote control of manufacturing systems - Deployment of large scale applications for online engineering - Building of communities around remote control of devices - Architectures & Use cases involving remote control of devices - Security issues for the remote control of devices - New Ideas and Paradigms for the remote control of devices Organizers : - Dr.-Ing Christophe Gravier, TELECOM Saint-Etienne, Universit Jean Monnet, F-42000 Saint-Etienne, christophe.gravier@telecom-st-etienne.fr - Pr.
