Call For Papers

Thanks to the proliferation of wearable devices, smart hand-held devices, and implantable sensors, the market demands for E-health systems are blooming in recent years. The collected biosignal data information could help the users, physicians, and interested third parties to get in-time understanding of a creature's (such as human, pets, livestock, and wild animals) health conditions. This valuable biodata could not only be used in the emergent medical applications but also be used in the daily monitoring applications.

Today, most of the E-health systems only collect and process partial biodata information, such as heart rate or body temperature. For some of the diseases, such as cancers, more down to the molecular (nano)level biodata information (such as proteins or nucleic acids) should be captured and processed. This requires new E-health methods and technologies to acquire and process these data so as to provide in-time diagnosis and treatment. In addition, besides biodata, sentimental data is also very important as the emotional feeling could affect the physical health significantly. Furthermore, the collection and processing of many clinical big-data records can also provide additional evidence for clinical and wellness suggestions.

Still, we lack the capability to combine such heterogeneous data as part of a large healthcare system. On the other hand, most E-health systems are standalone systems that do not share and communicate with the other systems. These problems raise new interesting research questions to be answered. Firstly, how to capture and process the molecular scale (or nanoscale) biodata in E-health system? Secondly, how to capture and process sentimental data in the E-health system? Thirdly, how to combine and process different formats of biodata, sentimental data, and clinical big-data from different E-health systems? Fourthly, how to develop the trustworthy relationship between the E-health systems so that heterogeneous data could be distributed and shared properly? Fifthly, how to store and analyze such data from various E-health systems? Finally, how to design and implement the new E-health platform to acquire and process the heterogeneous big biodata and sentimental data so as to provide in-time monitoring and diagnosis of the diseases?

In this special issue, we are soliciting manuscripts for novel schemes to tackle these challenging issues.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

E-health nanotechnologies
E-health smartphone Apps
E-health big-data platforms and data mining
E-health data fusion, aggregation, and visualization
E-health pervasive computing and networking
Security and privacy issues for E-health systems
E-health testbeds and applications regarding disease detection and care (e.g., cardiovascular diseases, cancers, diabetes, and chronic lung diseases)
Authors can submit their manuscripts via the Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/jhe/ueis/.
