-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) is seeking to create innovative technical aids to accommodate the needs of the rapidly evolving aging workforce as well as the needs of the growing number of citizens requiring health assistance and health care on a regular basis. To this end, AAL seamlessly integrates information and communication technologies to support the daily routine activities of elderly and people in need of care assistance, while maintaining their independent, safe, and private lifestyles within homes, residences, and open spaces.

Several AAL solutions are currently available. These solutions are increasingly relying on the use of emergent technologies which are capable of intelligently delivering personalized services to large number of individuals anytime, anywhere. In this regards, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), Internet of Things (IoT), Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs), Big Data, and Cloud computing are examples of recent technologies which are being used independently or jointly to leverage the quality, security, and pervasiveness of services. However, because of several constraints, including mobility, heterogeneity of ubiquitous devices, users’ requirements, and dynamic contexts, innovative algorithms, standards, architectures, and platforms are still needed to allow for an efficient collection and secure reporting of real-time data about health conditions of elderly and people in need of assistance as well as to allow for the storage, processing, visualization, and interaction with the services provided. These innovative solutions are expected to opening possibilities for new forms of communication between people and pervasive devices, between healthcare providers and healthcare consumers, as well as between these devices themselves. They are also expected to opening new approaches for generating, delivering
and interacting with aid services.

The special track on Emergent Technologies for Ambient Assisted Living (ETAAL) will provide a leading edge, scholarly and professional forum for researchers, engineers, experts, and students alike to share their state-of-the art research and developmental works related to the integration of cutting-edge technologies for Assistant Ambient Living services.
