1. Introduction

Software project Management (SPM) is a sub-discipline of project management in which software projects are planned, developed and managed. Many SPM paradigms exists that are being successfully employed, however, with the recent advances in computing technologies, eg Cloud Computing, the existing frameworks and management approaches do not satisfactorily apply. There is now a requirement for software that is scalable, sustainable and suitable for distributed computing environments; as well as a requirement for management methods with newer approaches that take into account distributed working practices utilising newer technologies/strategies. In the proposed book, we aim to investigate management approaches to developing software suitable for distributed environments. Emphasis is also on the use of latest technologies/frameworks. Hopefully, the proposed text will fill a gap in the SPM literature/practice by providing scientific contributions, focusing on project management methods/approaches for engineering scalable and reliable software suitable for distributed environments.

Some topics relevant to the proposed book include:

• Effective methodologies for the management of software projects
• Managing design and developing of scalable and sustainable software products
• Estimation of costs and times for the development of distributed software
• Management and simulation of distributed environments for software testing
• Management of ‘software project execution’ phase within the overall SPM
• Approaches to managing large software development distributed teams
• Management of Agile methodologies and enterprise cloud computing
• Management and analytics for Big Data
• Understanding of Data Science requirements and methodologies
• Testing and implementation approaches for distributed software applications
• Use of CASE tools for development/management of distributed software
• Advances in project management approaches/barriers/limitations/solutions
• Tools and technologies for effective SPM
• Management of migration of scalable software to distributed environments
• Limitations/barriers to design/development of software for smart devices
• Case studies on failed software projects
• Other case studies and best practices.

3. Aim and Objectives

The aim of the proposed book is to report and discuss topics, as mentioned above, to benefit other researchers and practitioners as well as to advance the existing body of knowledge, in relation to managing and development of scalable/sustainable software. The objectives are:

• To capture the latest research/practice relevant to SPM
• To discuss recent advances and trends in this field
• To present Case Studies describing challenges/best practices for SPM
• To discuss alignment of Software Engineering frameworks with SPM approaches
• To present corporate analysis of benefits and inherent issues
• To identify further research directions and technologies in this area

4. Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit 1-2 page chapter proposals clearly stating the objective, scope and structure of the proposed chapters - by the deadline mentioned above. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified within two weeks (in most cases) and given guidelines for full chapter preparation. Completed chapters should be approximately 10,000 words or 20 pages in length – longer chapters will also be acceptable. Full chapters will be reviewed following a double-blind peer review process to ensure relevance, quality, originality and high information content. 5. Important dates

• Chapter proposals due date: 25 May 2016
• Notification of acceptance by: within 1 weeks of receipt of proposals
• Full chapters due date: within 2 months of proposals acceptance
• Chapter reviews feedback by: within 3 months chapter due date
• Revised chapters due date: within 1 month of review feedback
• Manuscript delivery to publishers: Dec 2016
