It has provided enormous opportunities not only for personal networking but also at the organizational level. Keeping in view the huge user base of social websites, they can be a potential platform for governments not only for information dissemination but also to mobilize and support citizens. Similarly citizens can connect governmental and political institutions using social media. As a result, content generation and collaboration on social media provides new challenges for governance and politics. Social media usage by government has mainly been limited to developed countries but now governments in developing countries are also gradually adopting it. OBJECTIVE OF THE SPECIAL ISSUE: In this special Issue on Social media and E-Government, we aim to explore the role of social media in modern day governance. We intend to contribute to this scientific discourse by discussing some theoretical foundations and case studies related to usage of social media for e-government. RECOMMENDED TOPICS: Topics to be discussed in this special issue include (but are not limited to) the following: • Social media and citizen engagement • Mobilization and campaigning on social media • Social media and social networks in public sector • Privacy, security and trust issues of social media • Role of social media in disaster management • Mobile social networks • Legal issues of content sharing on social media • Social networks and information over load • Case studies of social media usage by governments • Guidelines and best practices for governmental usage of social media usage SUBMISSION PROCEDURE: Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit papers for this special theme issue on Social Media and E-Government insert special issue topic on or before 15th January 2016. All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another publication. INTERESTED AUTHORS SHOULD CONSULT THE JOURNAL’S GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSIONS at http://www.igi-global.com/Files/AuthorEditor/guidelinessubmission.pdf.
