Call for Chapter: A Comprehensive Guide to IPTV Delivery Networks

Due to the advent of high speed broadcasting networks as well as for the evolution of digital video broadcasting technique, a new era of television (TV) services has emerged, known as Internet Protocol Television (IPTV). The IPTV is a system that exploits the high speed broadband networks to deliver TV services to the subscribers. From the service provider viewpoint, the prime challenge in the IPTV system is how to provide high quality service with a minimum cost through the existing delivery networks. In fact, the IPTV delivery networks have witnessed several developments starting from the central architecture, which delivers the contents using a single main server. Then, later it was replaced by server farm or cluster. Next, the hierarchical architecture was introduced that distributes the contents from a set of cache servers. Again, the distributed architecture is proposed to replicate the contents into a set of servers distributed at different geographic places. The recent and promising architectural solution for the IPTV delivery network is the cloud-based architecture. This book will detail all those state-of-the-art IPTV delivery networks as well as the next generation delivery networks. This will also detail the technologies related to storage, broadcasting, buffering, Quality of Services (QoS), and Quality of Experience (QoE) of both real and scheduled IPTV services.

There are many factors that make this book different from the other currently existing books in the market. For instance, this is the only book that would cover the delivery networks of IPTV services rather than IPTV services only, which have been covered in most of the books available in the market. Without an efficient delivery network, IPTV services are of no use in reality. This book will also discuss the technologies related to delivery process for both live (real time) and on demand services in a coherent and consistent manner aiming to give a comprehensive guide for both researchers and industrial experts in the field of IPTV delivery networks.


The objective of this book is to detail past, present, and future of IPTV delivery networks, which employ IP-based networking techniques and topologies to support real time and scheduled television services. It also covers several other related issues of IPTV, namely: broadcasting, buffering, contents storage and allocation, security and privacy, QoS, QoE, mobility, etc. The motivation of this book is to provide the reader with a comprehensive guide on IPTV delivery networks and the related technologies in academic and industrial fields.

Target Audience

This book will be written for professionals and researchers who are working in the field of multimedia and delivery networking technologies. It also can be utilized as a reference book to teach the courses related to delivering and streaming real time and scheduled multimedia contents. Moreover, the book is expected to include practical guide on designing and optimizing the IPTV delivery networks so that it can be beneficial for professionals in IPTV industry. Finally, some chapters will be written in tutorial style so that the general readers can be able to easily grasp some of the ideas in the relevant areas.

Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit a chapter proposal of 500 words explaining the proposed chapter before November 30, 2015. Each chapter is expected to be submitted by March 15, 2016. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project. Chapters with multiple authors are welcome, even encouraged.

If you are planning to submit a chapter, please submit a proposal first before the relative deadline. The abstract/proposal could be within 500 words. The initial proposal must be submitted to the corresponding editor at with the subject line “CFC_IPTV-(Your Chapter Title)". Please also CC the same document to to ensure your submission and to verify that in case of missing. All deadlines related with this project will be strictly followed in every case.

Manuscript guidelines

The preparation of manuscripts submitted for the book must be original and not previously published elsewhere or currently under review. Expected chapter length is between 4,000 to 8,000 words or more (or can be discussed with the editors). All manuscripts must be submitted as Microsoft Office Word documents.
