+++++ Theme

Public Health Intelligence is critical for achieving public health goals, including promoting health, preventing disease, and providing a timely response to critical public health events (e.g., disease outbreaks, bioterrorism). Digital knowledge exchange and real-time surveillance are can advance public health intelligence using platforms that collect and integrate multiple data and knowledge sources, and facilitate analysis to generate insights that improve decision-making quality at individual and societal levels. Given the ever increasing role of the World Wide Web as a source of information in many domains including healthcare, accessing, managing, and analyzing its content has brought new opportunities and challenges. Rapid increase in access to the Internet and widespread use of online social medias along with the massive amount of online stream data generated by hundred millions of devices, users, service providers, government agencies and other stakeholders have made Public Health Intelligence an emerging global priority.

This book volume aims to present the state of the art and the advances in public health intelligence with a focus on the fields of social networking public and online disease surveillance. The edited volume will contain an overview of the issues, challenges and potentials in the field, along with the new research results. The book will provide information for a broad range of scientists, researchers, graduate students, industry professionals, national and international public health agencies, and NGOs interested in the theory and practice of computational models of online public/population health intelligence. It will also highlight the latest achievements in epidemiological surveillance based on monitoring online communications, behaviors and interactions on the Web. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

* Geographical Mapping and Visual analytics for Health Data
* Public and Population Health Intelligence
* Social Media Analytics
* Epidemic Intelligence
* Predictive modelling and Decision support
* Using social media for health promotion and intervention
* Biomedical Ontologies, terminologies and standard
* Bayesian Networks and Reasoning under Uncertainty
* Temporal and Spatial Representation and Reasoning
* Case-based Reasoning in Healthcare
* Crowdsourcing and Collective Intelligence
* Risk assessment, Policy, Trust, Ethics, Security and Privacy
* Sentiment Analysis and Opinion Mining
* Computational Behavioral/Cognitive Modeling
* Applications in Epidemiology and Surveillance (e.g. Bioterrorism, Participatory Surveillance)
