Call For Papers

2nd IEEE International Workshop on
Software Engineering for Context Aware Systems and Applications
(SECASA 2009)
IN CONJUNCTION WITH IEEE COMPSAC 2009

Seattle,Washington, July 20-24, 2009

http://conferences.computer.org/compsac/2009/workshops/SECASA2009.html

IMPORTANT DATES:

March 7, 2009 Workshop paper submission due
April 10, 2009 Workshop paper notification (electronic)
April 30, 2009 All final manuscripts and author pre-registrations due
(firm deadline).

THEME OF THE WORKSHOP:

We call for original contributions on the theme of context-aware
computing, focusing both on the development of practical context-aware
systems and application and on the theory to support this development.

Context-aware concepts are readily found in multiple applications,
including distributed and mobile computing, adaptive Web applications,
distributed operating systems, and distributed communities
for social networking and user collaboration.

More generally, context-aware computing requires that the behaviour
of a piece of software be aware of, and adapt to a set of underlying
runtime contexts and changes thereto, where the contexts are
external varying environments that may affect computation.
Examples of such external environments or contexts involve time,
location, situation, and user profile. Context-aware programming means
writing software programs that specify how computations or behaviors of
context-aware applications depend on or vary in underlying contexts.

Of particular interest are theoretical approaches to the problem
of context-awareness. For example, applying intensional concepts, with
possible world semantics, to context-aware computing and programming
should help build a solid theoretical foundation for enginerering
context-aware software systems and applications.

Topics of interest include all aspects of software engineering for
developing context aware systems and applications. Topics include but
are not restricted to:

* Software development process for context-aware systems and
applications
* Requirements engineering for context-aware systems and applications
* Modeling context-aware systems and applications
* Formalism and abstraction of context-aware systems and applications
* Software architecture and design patterns of context-aware systems
applications
* Quality of context-aware systems and applications
* Context-aware system and application design
* Programming languages and systems for context-aware systems and
applications
* Implementation of context-aware systems and applications
* Testing, verification, and validation of context-aware systems and
applications

Research papers as well as papers reporting practical experiences and
applications of the above topics are all welcome.

SUBMISSION:

All submissions must be made through the SECASA2009 submission site:
http://rs.cs.iastate.edu/COMPSAC2009Workshops/SECASA2009/

All submitted papers will be rigorously reviewed by at least two members
of the program committee according to its originality, significance,
correctness, presentation, and relevance. We encourage authors to
present position papers on practical studies and experiments, critiques
of existing work, emerging issues, and novel ideas under development.

Manuscripts of full-length papers are limited to six pages. If a paper
is accepted as a short paper its length must be reduced to no more than
four pages. Accepted fast abstracts and panel position statements will
be limited to two pages. Page counting includes all figures, tables,
and references. Extra page charges apply.

The format of submitted papers must follow the IEEE conference
proceedings guidelines (i.e., 8.5" x 11", Two-Column Format
(PDF: instruct.pdf; DOC: instruct.doc); Layout Guide
(PDF: format.pdf; DOC: format.doc; all under
ftp://pubftp.computer.org/press/outgoing/proceedings/).
Please consult these documents for proper naming conventions.

All accepted papers will be published in the electronic conference
proceedings by the IEEE Computer Society, indexed through INSPEC and
EI Index (Elsevier's Engineering Information Index), and automatically
included in the IEEE Digital Library. At least one of the authors of
each accepted paper must register by paying full registration fee as
a participant of the workshop to have the paper published in the
proceedings. Each accepted paper must be presented in person by
an author.

LIKELY PARTICIPANTS:

Participants from context-aware software engineering/systems research
groups in the world and researchers who are interested in applications
of context-aware concepts to software engineering and systems are
most welcome.
