Call For Papers

Paper authors, panelists and tutorial presenters are encouraged to address ways in which Systems Engineering principles, processes and perspectives are performed today and how the critical infrastructure sectors such as energy will benefit from these practices. Topics of interest include technology insertion, process improvements, and organizational governance of the systems we make, manage, operate and maintain over their life cycle.

DAY 1 - November 30

TRACK 1: Theme -- Changing Dynamics of the Global Energy Landscape: What are the major forces driving the sea-changes occurring in all phases of energy SYSTEMS (Exploration, Generation, Distribution, Consumption, etc,) and how will Systems Engineering facilitate decision making?

Topics: Global Energy Dynamics – Assessing the Impacts / System Engineering the Energy Future / State of Nuclear Power / Promise of Thorium -LFTR / Fracking, Horizontal Drilling / Smart Grid evolution / New Generation methods / State of Alternative Energy / Economics / Regulatory Environment / Climate change impacts / etc...

TRACK 2: Theme -- New Technologies for Solving the Energy Puzzle: How will new and emerging technologies provide solutions for society energy needs and how can these be effectively integrated with existing legacy systems?

Topics: Technology topics in the Energy Sector / SmartGrid / Advanced Devices / NASA Energy projects & initiatives / Electric Cars /Smart highways /Self-driving cars / New Tech for Alternative Energy /

DAY 2 - December 1

TRACK 3: Theme -- Leveraging the Capabilities of Model-based Systems Development for Energy: What is the current state of applied MBSE in the Energy Sector, and how will model-based methods provide decision support for key infrastructure? (Examples of actual models applied for life-cycle management Papers/ Presentations: Models & Case studies from Energy Sector / Critical Infrastructure / Academia / other...)

Topics: Creating a National Energy System Reference Model / Mapping out a Model-driven Energy System life-cycle / Using models for Greenfield Energy development / Transforming Brown-field energy systems with models / Using models for energy system operational efficiency / Modeling fault behavior & recovery / Risk Models for Energy / Reference model of resilient cities.

TRACK 4: Theme -- Managing Risk Factors in Critical Infrastructure: (Energy, Water, Food, Transport, Comm.. etc.) Safe, cheap, clean, available energy and vital services is critical to our civilization. Protection from natural and man-made threats is a national security issue of the highest order.

Topics: Cyber-Security: What to do / How to mitigate our system vulnerabilities / Exposure to various threats from physical attacks, hackers, cyberthreats, EMP, Solar Flare, etc../ Critical Infrastructure recovery and restoration from a "STRIKE"... / Various topics in Energy cybersecurity / Updates on progress of EMP mitigation / Critical System robustness / Resiliency / System fault propagation models /
