Call For Papers

AgriFish 2015 is the premier forum for the presentation of new trends, advances and research results in the fields of Agriculture, Animal Sciences, Fisheries and Aqua Culture. It will bring together leading academics, scientists and researchers from around the world.

AgriFish 2015 invites individual or panel proposals for presentations on any topic on the themes of the conference. We welcome individual paper presentations, panel sessions, round table discussions, performances, short films and posters.
Civilization began with agriculture. When our nomadic ancestors began to settle and grow their own food, human society was forever changed. Not only did villages, towns and cities begin to flourish, but so did knowledge, the arts and the technological sciences. The importance of managing agricultural systems in a way that ensures the sustainability of natural resource use is already well established. Most of the focus has been on the production side, where the emphasis is on sustainable intensification that can close yield and productivity gaps in underperforming systems while reducing the negative and enhancing the positive environmental impacts of agriculture

(FAO , 2011).
The rate of growth in agricultural production is declining; world grain reserves have fallen to record lows; the demand for imported grain is increasing; and commitments of aid to agricultural development have decreased. This against a backdrop of expanding world population, intensifying demands on agricultural resources, and a growing recognition that the agri-food system is not sustainable. The importance of managing the agriculture system in a way that is conducive to the health of the ecosystem is already well established

Increasing access to affordable animal-source foods could significantly improve nutritional status and health for many poor people, especially children. However, excessive consumption of livestock products is associated with increased risk of overweight and obesity, heart disease and other non-communicable diseases (WHO and FAO , 2003). Furthermore, the rapid growth of the livestock sector means that competition for land and other productive resources puts upward pressure on prices for staple grains as well as negative pressures on the natural resource base, potentially reducing food security in the longer term.

We are particularly interested to hear about your research, knowledge and experiences on the development of policy, strategies, approaches, tools, methodologies that can be adopted or adapted to better inform policy discussions by institutions, organizations and the international community to balance the global food production and Natural Resources. We are also keen to hear about grass roots research which clearly identifies needs and knowledge gaps for further research.

In this context we hope that this conference will stimulate discussions and debates and allows for the flow and exchange of knowledge and ideas thereby creating a unique resource and point of reference in this field. This will be an interactive conference underpinned by working group sessions. The findings from this conference will enable us to set up working groups in order to take forward some of the actions and recommendations on Future Challenges & Global Sustainability.
