Call for papers: Special Section on Energy-Efficient Technologies—Crowd Energy Applications

Guest Editor

Prof. Dr. Stephanie Teufel
University of Fribourg
stephanie.teufel@unifr.ch

From energy generation to transportation, from energy distribution to storage, from semiconductor processing to communications, and from portable devices to data centers, energy consumption has grown to be a major limitation to usability and performance. So energy efficiency and renewables get active research areas and energy turnaround is destined, motivated by energy necessity and environmental concerns. The energy turnaround will be achieved by applying highly efficient technologies (including information and communication technology), focusing on renewables, employing and accepting demand side management thus yielding decentralization. This ends in a change of the role of today’s energy consumers, they become energy prosumers who have to make strategic decisions on their energy balance, and organize themselves in like-minded neighborhoods. This sets up the framework of the Crowd Energy Concept. For a successful and sustainable implementation of the energy turnaround, it is essential to analyze and discuss not only in technical dimensions but also from sociological, economic, and political aspects.

Journal of Electronic Science and Technology (JEST, ISSN 1674-862X) is soliciting original manuscripts for Special Section on Energy-Efficient Technologies (EET)—Crowd Energy Applications which appears on JEST periodically. This Special Section on EET intends to bring together the state-of-art research results and industrial applications of energy-efficient technologies. In this issue, Prof. Teufel will preside over this Special Section, and the Guest Editor and JEST will focus on the Crowd Energy Concept. Authors are invited to submit unpublished papers, which are not under review in any other conference or journal, in the following topic areas, but not limited to:

¨ Efficient crowd energy models, methods, and technologies.
¨ Business models for decentralized energy generation
¨ Service innovation for decentralized energy generation
¨ Socio-political aspects of energy prosumer’s motivation
¨ Energy prosumer’s decision making processes
¨ Forecasting systems
¨ Demand side management
¨ Smart metering and dynamic pricing
¨ Energy-aware and energy-efficient computing.
¨ Energy-efficient communication, networking, and protocols
¨ Energy-efficient storage systems.
¨ Efficient power generation/conversion
¨ Efficient power transmission/distribution
¨ Energy-efficient transport and logistics
¨ Energy monitoring and management
¨ Energy-aware fault tolerance.
