Special Issue on
Pervasive Computing for Gerontechnology

-----------Call for Papers -----------

Gerontechnology is an interdisciplinary field combining gerontology and technology. Sustainability of an ageing society depends upon our effectiveness in creating systems, coping with assistive technology and inclusive design, for innovative and independent living and social participation of older adults in good health, comfort and safety. Gerontechnology aims at matching systems to health, housing, mobility, communication, leisure and work of the elderly.

The development of pervasive computing systems for gerontechnology has turned into a challenging activity requiring disciplines as diverse as artificial intelligence, human computer interaction, and wireless sensor networks to work together in order to provide solutions able to satisfy this growing societal demand. The stakeholders must be able to create systems that are sufficiently intelligent to detect falls or emotions, sufficiently usable as to be exploited by people with mobility problems, and sufficiently reliable and autonomous as to monitor health and mobility.

This special issue aims at publishing novel and outstanding research results about pervasive and mobile computing that offers support to gerontechnology. Both research and industrial papers that take advantage of such different disciplines to cover (but not limited to) the following topics are welcome:
- Pervasive and mobile telehealth and telemedicine services
- Wearable communication devices for older adults
- Pervasive and mobile services for lifelong learning to support mental health
- Pervasive and mobile rehabilitation technologies
- Pervasive assistive technologies and devices
- Pervasive emotion / affect / mood recognition and regulation environments
- Personalised ambient adaptation in mobile and pervasive environments
- Social / care robots and agents
- Pervasive and mobile entertainment technologies for the older adult
- Pervasive and mobile fitness and sports technologies for the senior

-----------Important Dates-----------
Submission deadline: June 30th, 2015
Initial feedback to authors: October 15th, 2015
Expected Publication of the Special Issue: 2016

-----------Submission Guidelines-----------
All submissions have to be prepared according to the Guide for Authors as published in the Journal website at http://www.ees.elsevier.com/pmc/. Authors should select “SI: Geron Rehab”, from the “Choose Article Type” pull-down menu during the submission process. All contributions must not have been previously published or be under consideration for publication elsewhere. A submission based on one or more papers that appeared elsewhere has to comprise major value-added extensions over what appeared previously (at least 30% new material). Authors are requested to attach to the submitted paper their relevant, previously published articles and a summary document explaining the enhancements made in the journal version.
