The 2015 Graduate Critical Studies Conference at SFU / CSC 2015

April 29-30, Simon Fraser University (Vancouver Campus)
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Conference Theme: “Alternatives, Critiques, and Re-imaginings”

The Graduate Caucuses at Simon Fraser University School of Communication and Department of Humanities are pleased to announce The 2015 Graduate Critical Studies Conference at SFU. The theme of this year’s conference is: “Alternatives, Critiques, and Re-imaginings”. This theme seeks to explore the hegemony and resistance underlying capitalism from both historical and contemporary perspectives.

The conference invites papers and presentations that problematize, explore opportunities to move beyond, or offer re-conceptualizations of capitalism. We welcome a broad range of submissions, from theoretical contemplation to pragmatic considerations of specific cases that explore, critique, or extend issues related to the general theme of “Alternatives, Critiques, and Re-imaginings.” Other topics within the general scope of critical studies are also acceptable.

Some potential topics, without in any way being limited to, include:
- Critical theories and their relevance to capitalist crises
- Humanistic analyses of social, economic, political and environmental problems
- Political economy
- (Critical) Science and Technology Studies

The conference offers a chance to share ideas and get feedback on current work from re-searchers of diverse disciplinary backgrounds and institutions and in the setting of scenic Vancouver, British Columbia. There will also be publication opportunities for presenters who wish to submit revised manuscripts to Stream: Culture/Politics/Technology, the graduate journal of SFU School of Communication.

Please submit your abstracts to the conference coordinator, Dylan Chandler, at CSCSFU2015@gmail.com by March 15th, 2015. The abstracts should be no more than 300 words (excluding references), with “Graduate Critical Studies Conference Submission” in the email’s subject line.
