The analysis of huge volume of data available online has become an emergent field nowadays known as Big Data analysis, and it is widely applied in many areas. In the case of Social Sciences, is also leading to a new scientific paradigm based on computational social science, which is also demanding new methodologies for data collection and analysis, new research questions, new case studies, new ethical guidelines for regulating the use of data automatically collected from the Web, and new techniques for enforcing legal rules that regulate the use of data published on the Web. The popularity of web-based interactions and social media provide new opportunities for researchers, practitioners and companies. This session explores new data collection technologies and analytical tools, able to manage unstructured information from heterogeneous sources. For instance, collecting and cleaning large data sets, merging data from multiple sources, or correcting inconsistencies, biases and errors. Furthermore, the
session also encourages new applications coming from social media and online communities, which explore market and societal-level impacts with new data-sensing and social media capabilities. The social media sites includes information about social sentiments among people in online communities, as well as their preferences, choices and social relationships. Finally, data need to be anonymized or aggregated so that no personally-identifying information is made available and ethical and legal rules on how the data can be used must be enforced. In this context, this session invites original research papers that address one or more of the topics listed below.
