Motivation
----------------------------------------------------------- Education always plays a vital role in the development of our society. Along with the wave of modern technology, education embraced computer-aided learning, e-learning and, now, intelligent learning. Among intelligent learning techniques, Virtual Reality (VR) technology brings about unprecedented educational experience and shows great potential value in educational areas. It brings such pedagogical advances as smart classrooms, intelligent campuses, immersive museums, affective learning, mobile learning, intelligent learning clouds and personalized VR tutors to revolutionize current learning practices. Using VR, the effectiveness and attractiveness of education have been enhanced and the way people acquire, comprehend and interact with knowledge is changing. Moreover, with recent advancements of VR technology, high-quality low cost displays and input devices, such as the Oculus Rift and the STEM Tracking System, have brought us to a turning point where VR can finally leave the research lab and reach the classroom with unprecedented quality at an affordable cost. Hence there is an urgent need for a special issue that acts as a forum for researchers and practitioners to pool knowledge together and to advance the science and art of VR educational practice, making it more efficient, cost-effective, and fun. --------------------- Topics of Interests --------------------- This special issue will cover the following topical areas but are not limited to: * Intelligent classrooms; * Intelligent campus; * Virtual Reality Tutoring Systems; * Educational Virtual Humans; * Virtual Reality Learning Environments; * Virtual Reality Training Systems; * Digitally Enhanced Teaching Laboratories; * Learning clouds; * Virtual Reality in Mobile Learning; * Evaluation of Virtual Reality learning environments; * Validation of VR for educational applications; * Security and privacy in Virtual Reality educational systems ========================================================== Submission details ---------------------------------------------------------- Original, high quality contributions that are not yet published and that are not currently under review by other journals or peer-reviewed conferences are sought.
