Selcuk Candan (Arizona State University) candan@asu.edu %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Workshop Theme and Topics of Interest The first workshop on "Real-Time Business Intelligence" (RTBI'09), co-located with APWEB/WAIM 2009 conference, focuses on the challenges associated with the modeling, architectural designs, technologies, and applications for real-time BI. As one of the most critical tools in obtaining competitive advantage (and thus surviving) in the business world, real-time business intelligence is one of the key driving forces in IT investments. Reliable and real-time collection of business intelligence requires co-operation of the many loosely-coupled components of the IT infrastructure of an enterprise. Consequently, as these infrastructures become more complex and as the data sizes get closer to the petabyte levels, designing and deploying real-time business intelligence solutions is becoming a real challenge. In this workshop, we would like to explore alternative solutions to the imminent "scalability" problem in real-time business intelligence. The workshop focuses on modeling, architectures, technologies, applications for real time business intelligence in the following areas: + Cloud and grid computing + BI over massive data volume (i.e. map reduce type of parallel computing) + BI over streaming data + Real-time data capture, parsing, extraction, cleaning, and replication. + Performance, reliability, and scalability + Real-time decision support systems + Tuning and management of the real-time data warehouse + Data warehouse evolution + Data mining and data analysis in real-time + Real-time Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) + Real-time OLAP + Real-time operational data stores + RFID and sensor network-based BI applications + Visualization + Benchmarking + Privacy issues + Uncertainty issues We also solicit papers describing real world case studies on applying BI tools to real-life problems and lessons learned from large practical applications of real-time BI. Publication: Informal proceedings will be distributed at the workshop and all papers accepted by APWeb-WAIM'09 workshops will be published in a combined volume of Lecturer Notes in Computer Science series published by Springer as post-workshop formal proceedings. Submission Guidelines and Important Dates The papers must be in English and should be formatted according to the Springer-Verlag Lecture Notes in Computer Science guidelines.
