One of the biggest growing markets for Information Technology is the health, wellness and ambient assisted living domain. The emergence of new care models is driving the point of care away from hospitals into the community. The delivery of care takes place further and further away of the physical location of patient data. Also, individual health data are increasingly distributed and need to be integrated in real time, frequently across different domains and networks in a safe and secure manner. Due to demographic developments world wide virtualization of care is a necessity which eventually will thrive on new network technologies such as 5G and features such as software defined networks (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV). On the other hand dissemination of these much needed information technologies will require new business models, standards and certification schemes as can already be seen for the case of new m Health applications such as massively promoted on the Apple and Google platforms. Three streams have so far been established to discuss the social technological alignment (stream 1), innovative mHealth apps and platforms (stream 2) and sensors, networks and interoperability (stream 3).
