Call For Papers

Running video applications over wireless networks is technically demanding due to constraints and heterogeneities such as battery power limitations, bandwidth restrictions, channel noise and interference, and a variety of protocols and standards. Developing solutions requires wide experience and knowledge involving channel models, modulation, codec structures and features, and implementation details of the ever-expanding wireless technology menagerie. The aim of this Special Issue is to provide the communications engineer with an insight into current research in this rich and expanding field. Topics of primary interest include but are not limited to:

• Video coding for wireless networks
• Video communication over wireless networks (3G, 4G, PAN, BAN, MANET, WLAN, wireless broadband, ultra-wideband)
• Video wireless sensor networks
• Video delivery to energy-constrained devices
• Exploitation of communication features of state-of-the-art codecs
• Support for mobile TV — IEEE 802.16e, DVB-H
• Video multi-description coding and path diversity, including MIMO
• Cross-layer approaches
• Source Channel coding
• Video over ad-hoc networks
• Computational intelligence algorithms for wireless communication
