Call For Papers

INTRODUCTION
The IV National Conference on Music Research (ENIM 2014) will take place in Seixal (Portugal), in colaboration with Centro de Estudos de Sociologia e Estética Musical (CESEM, FCSH-NOVA), Instituto de Etnomusicologia – música e dança (INET-md, FCSH-NOVA), Câmara Municipal do Seixal and IFCT´s School of arts, from thursday to saturday, 20th to 22nd November 2014.
Researchers from all around the world are invited to submit proposals for talks in portuguese, spanish, french, italian or english. We also welcome pannels gathering 3 to 4 speakers (max.) concerning one single topic.
Besides an abstract (c. 300 words), we request a small biographical note (c. 150 words) and every need concerning equipment being used.
In the case of pannels, we ask for its title, the name of the organizor, and an abstract related to the pannel (c. 300 words), followed by the individual abstracts and biographical notes.
The individual talks should not exceed 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes for discussion. We won’t admit more than one proposal for person (individual and pannels participations included).

PROPOSED THEME
The main theme of this meeting will be the 40th anniversary of the Abril 25, 1974 Revolution, more precisely the role of musicians and music in movements against the fascist dictatorship and the transition to democracy in Portugal.
We also encourage papers that focus on comparable experiences, historical and contemporary, in other countries. For example:
1.Music and musicians in the political resistance and the revolutionary process
2.Music, anti-colonial resistance and decolonization
3.Transformations of the public sphere and networks of production, mediation and reception
4.Music in the mass media and digital networks
5.Musical institutions and public politics in the fields of education and culture
6.Politics of identity: gender studies
7.Politics of identity: in search of the ‘national’, ‘regional’ and ‘local’
8.Tendencies of musical creation and performance, and aesthetic ideological debates.

The deadling for its reception is Friday, 30th SEPTEMBER 2014.
