A vast amount of image data such as medical images, satellite images, etc. is produced every second. Image mining systems that can extract significant information from image data are increasingly claimed. For example, in biomedical informatics a large amount of images are collected. In particular, medical imagery is increasingly acquired and stored digitally. Image mining in medicine can help to uncover new relationships between data, such as relation between disease and treatment and reveal new information that identify diseases, determine diagnoses, or suggest certain treatments. Image mining represents the bound of image processing technology and data mining to help specialists in understanding and analyzing complex images. This field takes advantages of computer evolution and the progress of diverse disciplines such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, image processing, etc.

This book addresses the major techniques of Image mining. It deals with methods and approaches that involve clustering, classification, pattern recognition, and partitioning of data in order to learn the knowledge for computer-assisted image analysis.

Developments in image acquirement and storage technologies have led to very great and detailed image databases. Image mining can reveal useful information to specialists and can extract implicit knowledge and relationships not explicitly expressed in the images.

This book addresses the major techniques of data biomedical mining. It deals, principally, with methods and approaches that involve Medical image and signal analysis, image retrieval, segmentation of medical images, and biomedical information extraction.

Target Audience
Researchers, decision makers, academicians, advanced-level students, technology developers.
