Summer school "Methodology of task design - How to construct exercises for learning"

22. - 27. 9. 2014, Technische Universität Dresden, Dresden, Germany.

Deadline for paper submission 23. 6. 2014

Exercises are employed in various areas of teaching and learning as a proven and virtually
indispensable means to improve learning success. Since constructing exercises is a complex task,
huge, sometimes commercial, exercise repositories exist. However, in order to purposefully select
exercises, the need arises to evaluate their quality.

In some disciplines, specific contributions to a methodology of task design already exist. However,
until now these individual contributions were exchanged between disciplines in only a rudimentary
way. So far neither a joint advancement of psychological insights into task design nor an analysis
of the effects of exercise processing through formal methods for representing knowledge structures
is existent.

The summer school aims to bring these approaches together in such a way that a methodology of task
design is developed, discussed and documented. To do this, psychological, psychometric and
mathematical competences shall be brought together and presented.

Confirmed keynote speakers

- Prof. Dr. Dietrich Albert (TU Graz & University of Graz, Austria)
- Prof. Dr. Jean-Paul Doignon (Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium)
- Prof. Dr. Mark J. Gierl (University of Alberta,Canada)
- Prof. Dr. Jürgen Heller (Universität Tübingen, Germany)
- Prof. Dr. Michal Krupka (Palacky University Olomouc, Czech Republic)
- Prof. Dr. Susanne Narciss (Universität Passau, Germany)

- Prof. Dr. Sergei Obiedkov (HSE Moscow, Russia)
- Dr. Uta Priss (Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, Germany)
- Prof. Dr. Ali Ünlü (TU München, Germany)

Main topics of interest for participants' papers include, but are not limited to:

- Psychological theories of knowledge acquisition
- Cognitive assessment
- Knowledge and learning spaces
- Formal concept analysis

We cordially invite students (postdocs, PhD) and researchers to submit short papers
(up to *3* pages long) on the topics listed above. Accepted papers will be presented in poster

Papers will be peer-reviewed and selected papers may be considered for publication in the summer
school proceedings and/or special issues.

Students may apply for financial support. The granting of this support will be dependent on the
summer school's budget. Participants from Europe may receive upto 300 Euro and participants from oversea upto 750 Euro.

Candidates should submit the short papers together with their resumé by 23.6.2014 to
The submission opens on 1.5.2014.
