V Ubiquitous Music Workshop (V UbiMus)

The Ubiquitous Music Group (g-ubimus) - a research network encompassing information-technology practitioners from two Brazilian universities (UFAC, UFRGS) and from the National University of Ireland at Maynooth - has fostered the initial activities in ubiquitous music research by establishing a yearly conference: the Workshop on Ubiquitous Music (UbiMus). This scientific gathering has been held in Florianópolis (2010), Vitória (2011) and São Paulo (2012). The fourth workshop took place in December 2013, in Porto Alegre. The UbiMus proceedings are available on-line (III UbiMus 2012) and extended versions of selected papers have been featured in indexed publications (Keller et al. 2011; Miletto et al. 2011). The V UbiMus will be held in Vitória, ES, Brazil from October 29 to November 1 2014.

Special Issue of the JCIT: Digital Arts and Creativity-Centered Design

Creativity-centered design (Lima et al. 2012) has emerged as a viable approach to IT creativity practices (Mitchell et al. 2003). This special issue of the Journal of Cases on Information Technology will feature selected materials from the V UbiMus, focusing on creativity-centered design and its applications within the context of the digital arts. Submissions should deal with aspects of sonic composition, multimedia, human-computer interaction, educational applications and cognitive research on IT-based creativity support. The target public are researchers in information management, computer science, music, psychology, social sciences, and education technology.

Selection criteria include: a) focus on IT-based creativity support; b) theoretical relevance, assessed through discussions of the latest proposals within the digital arts; c) artistic relevance, evidenced through examples of artistic applications.
