Translational Cereal Genomics

(February 09-12, 2014, Vienna, Austria)

Cereals are extremely important crops for human consumption. They account for over 50% of human energy and protein needs, and cereal plants occupy two-thirds of all cultivated land. Although cereals breeding have been very successful in developing improved varieties using conventional tools and methods in the past, recent advances in cereal genomics have made it possible to analyze the architecture of cereal genomes, leading to an increase in our knowledge of the genes that are linked to key agronomic important traits. Nowadays most research efforts focus on understanding the genetic basis of traits of agronomic relevance and the application of genomics tools for the improvement of cereals.

Vienna is located in the heart of Europe on the banks of the Danube River, and considered as one of the most important economic, cultural and touristic large cities of central Europe. Apart from providing top science, the Conference will capture the spirit of the city, thanks to the central location of the venue offering a multitude of cultural events.

This three-day event will provide leading academy and industry scientists a platform to communicate recent advances in “"Translational Cereal Genomics"“ and an opportunity to establish multilateral collaborations.

The International Conference “Translational Cereal Genomics“ will cover the following research topics:
Model Systems in Cereals
Epigenetics and Evolution of Cereal Genome
Genetic Resources, Natural Variation of Cereals
Cereal “Omics” (Genomics, Proteomics & Metabolomics, etc.)
Genetics & Molecular Mapping of Quantitative Trait Loci
Application of Genomics in Cereal Breeding
Sequencing and Bioinformatics of Cereal Genome
Molecular Markers, Marker Assisted Selection & Molecular Breeding in Cereals
Mutant Resources (TILLING, ECOTILLING, DART etc.) for Cereal Gene Discovery
Cereal Doubled Haploids
Heterosis and Hybrid Breeding of Cereals
Breeding for Grain Quality, Processing, Nutritional and Aroma Traits
Breeding of Cereals for Abiotic and Biotic Stress Tolerance
Genetic Transformation of Cereals and Cereal Biotechnology
