The 10th International Mine Ventilation Congress (IMVC 2014) that will be held in South Africa will provide a setting which will stimulate the intellect, benefit professional development as a practitioner, and extend the knowledge base and communication network to support your career or research ventures. About the Congress The Mine Ventilation Society of South Africa (MVSSA) will host IMVC 2014 at Sun City in South Africa’s Pilanesberg Game Reserve, from 2 to 8 August 2014. The aim of the International Mine Ventilation Congresses is to promote and nurture communication between ventilation professionals in order to improve mine ventilation engineering and the related health and safety aspects. The focus of IMVC 2014 in South Africa will be the sharing of knowledge gained since the previous congress with a view to improving, developing and refining aspects of ventilation, refrigeration, cooling, health and safety, and related energy efficiency in mines internationally. Since its inception in 1944, MVSSA has represented the interests of practitioners in the mine ventilation engineering and related health and safety fields world-wide. MVSSA has an international membership of some 850 Fellows, Members and Associates and the MVSSA also hosted the 1st and 5th International Mine Ventilation Congresses in South Africa. Congress Programme The 10th International Mine Ventilation Congress will offer a seven-day programme comprising two days of specialised and interactive pre-congress workshops; a three-day technical programme of plenary and parallel sessions featuring the expertise of industry and academia; two days of site visits; a Welcome Reception and Gala Dinner; and a companion programme. Congress Theme The theme of IMVC 2014 is “Managing mine ventilation systems in the modern context: meeting mining, economic, sustainability, and health and safety challenges”. The congress programme will focus on all aspects of mine ventilation and the management of related systems. Presentation Format The IMVC 2014 programme will comprise a mix of Keynote, Plenary, Workshop, Symposia and Poster sessions. Accepted papers will be presented orally or as part of a poster display. Oral papers will be grouped by topic and presented in a number of sessions. Oral presentations should not exceed fifteen minutes with an allowance of a further five minutes for discussion. Authors chosen for a poster session will be given a full day to display their posters.
