CloudDP’13: 3rd International Workshop on Cloud Data and Platforms
in conjunction with ACM EuroSys’13 Prague, Czech Republic, April 14th, 2013 http://clouddp13.doc.ic.ac.uk/ Cloud-based data management and processing systems, spanning tens of thousands of machines and supporting thousands of concurrent users, require new architectures, programming models and system designs that go beyond approaches used in fixed-sized compute clusters. For example, such systems must support the work of users who interactively explore and analyze large complex data sets in real-time. A wide range of systems and platform have been proposed to address these needs, ranging from batch-oriented systems such as Map/Reduce or Apache Hadoop to new, real-time streaming platforms such as Apache S4 or Storm. In order to enable new types of big data applications, it is necessary to overcome challenges spread across the areas of software systems, distributed systems, networking, data management and security research. Instead of providing a forum for merely extending existing cloud data systems and platforms, this workshop seeks for submissions describing radical, new alternatives on how data can be processed and managed in cloud environments. The goal is to attract research that has the potential to underpin the next generation of scalable and efficient cloud data applications on top of high-level, flexible and generic platforms. -=Keynotes=- Ant Rowstron, Principal Researcher, Microsoft Research Cambridge. Ant Rowstron works in Networked Systems, at the junction of Networking, Systems and Distributed Systems. Most recently he has been interested in "big data" and in particular in building hardware (clusters) and software stacks to support big data processing. He has been exploring this from a number of angles, including using ideas from HPC in the data center - in a project called CamCube. -=Topics=- The topics of the CloudDP workshop relate to various aspects of data processing systems and cloud platforms, which include but are not limited to: vertical and horizontal scalability elasticity and adaptive scheduling resource allocation and provisioning data management and storage runtime and operating system support networking and communication processing paradigms and programming models fault tolerance and dependability predictability and performance modeling multi-tenancy and virtualization security -=Submission=- Paper submissions may not exceed 5 pages double column, including everything (i.e., figures, tables, references, appendices, etc.), and should use a 10pt font (by specifying \\documentclass[10pt,twocolumn]{sigplanconf}). Papers must be formatted according to the ACM SIGPLAN style, for which templates are available for both LaTeX and Word: http://eurosys2013.tudos.org/submissions.html. Workshop papers should be submitted following the procedure described on the workshop webpage: http://clouddp13.doc.ic.ac.uk. Accepted papers will be published as part of the ACM Digital Library. -=Important Dates=- January 27, 2012 - Paper submission deadline February 27, 2012 - Author notification March 5, 2012 - Camera-ready submission deadline April 14, 2012 - Workshop -=Workshop Organizers and Program Chairs=- Paulo Ferreira (INESC ID, Portugal) Zbigniew Jerzak (SAP Research, Germany) Peter Pietzuch (Imperial College London, United Kingdom) -=Technical Program Committee=- Roberto Baldoni, University of Rome (La Sapienza) Ugur Cetintemel, Brown University Christof Fetzer, TU Dresden Pascal Felber, University of Neuchatel Ruediger Kapitza, TU Braunschweig Guillaume Pierre, Université de Rennes 1 Luis Veiga, Instituto Superior Técnico - UTL / INESC-ID Lisboa Alexander L.
