Call For Papers

CALL FOR PAPERS:
4th International Workshop on Product LinE Approaches in Software Engineering (PLEASE 2013)
http://please2013.haifa.il.ibm.com

Monday, May 20, 2013, San Francisco, CA, USA, in conjunction with ICSE'13

Papers due: Feb 7, 2013

Software Product Line Engineering (SPLE) takes advantage of commonalities and variabilities among a family of similar software products to achieve efficiency in product production. By adopting SPLE, organizations are able to achieve significant improvement in time-to-market and quality, reduce engineering and maintenance costs, portfolio size, and more. However, despite the proven benefits of SPLE over traditional reuse approaches, SPLE is still in the early adopter stage. The main goal of PLEASE is to bring together industrial practitioners and software product line researchers in order to couple problems in the area of SPLE with concrete solutions developed by the SPLE community. The workshop also aims to establish long-term collaborations between participants.

SUBMISSIONS

We invite short papers (2-4 pages) that present either a concrete and well-illustrated description of a realistic problem related to SPLE, or a concrete and exemplified solution developed by the SPLE community. We explicitly encourage submissions that report on on-going collaborations, which have been initiated or influenced by earlier PLEASE workshops. This potentially includes problems and solutions that have been published earlier, if they support the workshop objectives and answer the questions provided below.

For "problems":
* What is the problem/challenge that you are trying to solve?
* Demonstrate it on a concrete example.
* When would you consider the challenge resolved?
* How could the success be evaluated? Is there some key indicator which allows to assess the success?

For solutions:
* What is the problem/challenge that you solve?
* Demonstrate the solution on a concrete example.
* What are the solution’s benefits and limitations?
* Who could benefit from your approach?
* Was your approach evaluated? How?
* Is your approach based on a certain technology or scientific concept (e.g., model checking)? Please provide references.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Transforming software families into product lines; migration strategies towards product lines; extracting product line representations from legacy software artifacts.
* Sustainable long-term approaches for product lines; product line evolution and software configuration management.
* Non-functional properties and quality attributes in product line engineering.
* SPLE for very large, complex systems and system-of-systems; Multi product lines; product lines of product lines.
* Software ecosystems and supply chains based on product lines.
* Intra-organizational approaches, practices, stimuli and measures of product portfolio development.
* Incremental and distributed development of product lines.
* Validation of product lines.

Submissions should conform to the ICSE 2013 Guidelines available at http://2013.icse-conferences.org/content/submission-guidelines
and be in English. Papers should be submitted electronically at http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=please2013

Submissions will be selected based on their relevance to the workshop topics and objectives. Accepted papers will be published in the ICSE 2013 electronic proceedings collection (handed out to participants at the conference) and on the workshop website (to allow preparation for the workshop). At least one author of each accepted paper is required to register and present the work at the workshop for the paper to be included in the workshop proceedings.
